What the writer completely overlooks in his attempt to make sense out of the senseless and make another excuse for GM Jerry is the fact that Jimmy not only had solid day 1 picks, but also found quality players in the lower rounds. As Alexander posted, finding two starters with out first two picks should be the rule, not the exception. Not only has Jerry failed on day one, he's also traded away picks then went searching for that diamond in the rough in the later rounds which also failed.

You can't just look at Jimmy's drafts and say he had high draft picks so he was successful. He nailed some quality late round picks and made us the deepest team in the NFL depth wise.

Jerry is extremely dependent upon those surrounding him to afford him the knowledge he lacks to make decisions. At the same time, he doesn't hesitate to micro-manage while simultaneously compromising the authority of those same people. Let's face it, there's no rational reasoning for nonsensical actions. No doubt, Jerry does the best he can with his inadequate qualifications but unfortunately, his best efforts offer scant comfort for such insufficient results. People will always try to invent explanations for Jerry's foolishness while leaving as many questions as answers in the end. The man's an enigma.

Guys with big egos don't turn them off for Jimmy then turn them back off for Bill. He hasn't give only 2 coaches control of the team and been a dictator in between. He's been involved all along and if you make sense he will listen just like Parcells said. He had success by listening to Jimmy so why wouldn't he keep trying to get good advice from other coaches? In hindsight the formula should have had a rotating door for a GM too. It was a bad philosophy.
