With Hurricane Ike forecast to bear down on south Florida by late Monday or early Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins may be seeking out a familiar port to ride out the storm.

Multiple sources confirmed that the team contacted the Alamodome today about hosting its workouts next week. Dolphins management also has been in touch with local Marriott officials about booking rooms at the chain's Rivercenter and Riverwalk properties.

Any decision on whether to head to Texas likely wouldn't be made until Sunday or Monday, when Ike's track is better defined.

Miami, which travels to New Jersey today for a Sunday season opener against the Jets, would head to San Antonio early next week for practices en route to next weekend's game at Arizona.

The Dolphins' inquiries come only days after the New Orleans Saints, who relocated to San Antonio in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina, had flirted with the idea of returning to the Alamodome as Hurricane Gustav churned in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Saints, however, elected to move practices to Indianapolis' vacant RCA Dome instead.

"This has a whole lot better chance of happening than the Saints' move," said one source close to the situation, who asked not to be identified.

Hurricane Ike, currently a Category 3 storm with winds at 120 mph, is projected to roar through the Bahamas before making a turn toward the west-northwest late Monday and early Tuesday and pass close to the northern coast of Cuba, the Florida Straits and south Florida.

The Dolphins' knowledge of San Antonio is understandable. Miami's executive vice-president of football operations, Bill Parcells, was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys when that team held its training camp at the Alamodome in 2003.

When Dallas returned to San Antonio for camp in 2007, Miami general manager Jeff Ireland was an executive for the Cowboys and Dolphins head coach Tony Sporano was the 'Boys assistant head coach.

The Saints played three games at the Alamodome in 2005.

Hurricanes seem to be doing their best to tear up as much as possible again this year. Hopefully all works out well for everyone in those areas.

They don't have a "home" game with the Giants this year do they? Because we all know where they will be playing if they do.

Who wrote this article? Cause if the Dolphins are leaving for New Jersey today, as the article states, they might want to stop that charter flight because the game is scheduled for Miami on Sunday.
