The real problem is that there is a fine line between taking risks and being careless and Jerry doesn't have the slightest clue as to where that line is at.

Just for grins...just which team does one think has the best 'triplets' on their team?

Arizona, Green Bay, Pittsburgh...Dallas

How am I factoring in Bells suspension to this?

Right now in terms of games all three are available Ill Pitts. However Pitt is where we were with Gregory in that there is the looming possibility he could miss a very significant chunk of the season.

I would say with all factors weighed in ( including Elliott never taking an NFL snap) I would choose ours over any in the NFL

Ill throw this out there. At least Gregory was a second and not a first and should give the organization pause in terms of players with similar issues in the future. Taking risks isnt a problem, its knowing what to take.

Gregory was very much in the convo at pick 27, so much so that it came as a mild surprise he wasnt the pick. I bet in future drafts guys like him will be completely off our board

First off, don't steal a thread away from what was presented in the OP. Want that discussed, start an OP in the proper forum...and it's ON.

Pay attention, when hijacking...

Relax

Every time you draft somebody or pick up a free agent you are taking a risk.

Let's see your response now...well, is it statistics or poor record that dominates a view of this year's Cowboys. Don't you agree that Jerry is the root cause of all failure. Now, how can it be justified losing Ware, and then Hardy, followed by the suspension of Lawrence, Gregory, and McClain...maybe you can point out how this steady diet of gloom allows a valid discussion of strengths...

You daily counting the years of no Lombardis? That is what is objectional...now relax.

And none of that is my view from the start...

I don't take risks that don't make sense and have been quite fortunate in the process. Of course, that's just me, though . . .

Don’t expect the Dallas Cowboys to stop taking risks

Despite the fact defensive end Randy Gregory is not working out as planned, don’t expect that to change the Dallas Cowboys draft strategy moving forward.

The Dallas Cowboys are not afraid to take risks. And despite the fact many of those gambles haven’t paid off, don’t expect that to change the way the Cowboys make those types of decisions moving forward.

Last offseason, the Cowboys flexed their risk muscles signing controversial defensive end Greg Hardy. That plan backfired as all Dallas received in return was a disgruntled player, disappointing numbers and tons of bad publicity.

In last year’s draft, the Cowboys opted to select first round talent Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory in the second round. Gregory dropped to the Cowboys 60th overall due to a rumored drug problem and a failed drug test during the NFL’s Scouting Combine. Just over a year later, the young pass rusher has failed his fifth drug test, admitted himself into a treatment facility and appears to be destined to receive another suspension from the league.

In this year’s NFL Draft back in April, the Cowboys shocked the football world when they selected injured Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith near the top of the second round. A top-five talent when healthy, Smith suffered a major knee injury in January. Because of the nerve damage sustained during to the injury, it is unknown if the young man will ever play the game again. At last word, there has been no significant improvement to nerve in that knee.

Despite how each one of these risks look in hindsight, you’d think common sense would dictate a more conservative approach moving forward. But when it comes to the Cowboys front office, think again.
“Both Jerry and Stephen Jones said on Wednesday that they don’t expect this to change their draft strategy, so there’s your short answer,” replied staff writer David Helman to a mail bag question on the team’s official site this week.” As Stephen Jones himself said on Wednesday, that’s business. Some gambles work and some don’t. It’s all about deciding which ones are worth it.”

Although the Dallas Cowboys may be more educated in how they go about it, the Jones’ are still risk-takers at heart. And that mentality has served them well in the past. It is also part of the reason America’s Team hasn’t sniffed a Super Bowl berth in over 20 years.

He left out Smith this year, too.

No gamble there.

Does anybody recall us ever scoring a big return on gambling on these flawed players?

I can't remember anybody we turned into a headliner.

Maybe Dwain Thomas..maybe Leon Lett..marginally TO..

but other than that..?

Anybody?

He's also rich and added three Lombardi's to the stack...

Jimmy added 3 trophies.....not Jerry. Let's get things straight. And it should have been 5. So in my book Jerry butchered 2.

I would submit that Sean Lee was a risk that worked out. And we certainly can't judge the Jaylon Smith pick right now. Im willing to bet there were a few other teams looking at him there too.

No, the owner and GM, both get credit...sorry, a disgruntled fans attempt to rewrite history just doesn't cut it...

Well you have to include coaching to that equation. I would lean toward Green Bay, but when healthy and on the field Dallas has a pretty good set minus Zeke (you never know what you have with a rookie). Again...another one liner that could have been a topic on it's own...wow...too much thinking for me on a Saturday morning..lol

As long as Jerry is running the show, nothing will ever surprise me. It wouldn't shock me to see that he's had discussions with Aaron Hernandez' agent.

Sorry CC ... stick with doing porn. Jerry gets credit for writing the checks and hiring Jimmy Johnson. That's it. Giving Jerry the credit for those Super Bowls is rewriting history. He was just a spectator and a cheerleader. That's it.

Son, first eliminate the referral to porn to any comments in the future...

Post any source not next to you at the burn barrel, another 'fan,' and what they stated that proves Jerry wasn't involved very deeply with the player and coach acquisitions for the Dynasty period!!!
