I'm such a big fan of Tim Conway and Don Knotts, what a team they were. Don Knotts, from Marine Corps drill instructor to comedy acts, what a great American. It's a sad loss.

Wow! A sad day for that we lost a true comedic great... But a day to celebrate that we had him on the planet for 81 years and though the power of reruns he'll live with us forever.

RIP Barney :(

I loved him as Barney and as Mr. Furley. His mugging to the camera is still hilarious.

Rest In Peace Mr. Knotts. What a loss of a true comedic legend.

He represented what was GOOD in Hollywood.

Forever live his work and his memory...

According to the IMDB filmography from the above link, his first appearance was in 1951 with the show Search for Tomorrow.

Last year he did the voice for Chicken Little.

He will be greatly missed.

Question: How boring would the Andy Griffith be if it weren't for Don Knotts?

Don knotts was one of TV's all-time great character actors and he will be loved and missed for a long time. They'll still be showing Mayberry reruns when the youngest person on this board is somebody's grandpa. That's as close as any of us gets to immortality. :(

Truely a sad event. Mr Knotts was one of the funniest people I've ever watched.

Some of you may know this, but originally Barney was the one that was to be the smart one while Andy was supposed to be the dummy. Strange how that was the intention but glad that it changed.

I can't watch the color shows with Warren and Howard after he left.

Have you ever seen the movie No Time for Sargents? Andy plays a hillbilly that gets drafted in to the military. There was a funny scene where Don Knotts was giving him a test where he had to seperate two rings. He shows Andy how to do it and he can't figure it out so he bends them apart. The look on Don Knotts face was hilarious.

Great movie.

They used to film the TV show in Mount Airy, NC. I lived there for short time. The people there have a yearly festival honoring that show. They loved Don Knotts. He was so kind to the people there. I'd be willing to bet the town of Mount Airy will honor him in some way.

Sad to hear.

I never cared for the Andy show, although I could always get a good laugh out of Don Knotts.

Some of his movies were great family comedies.

Who can forget any of the following...

The Reluctant Astronaut
The Ghost and Mr Chicken
The Incredible Mr Limpet
The shakiest Gun in the West
The apple dumpling gang movies (tim and don made a great team)
Although I liked buddy hacket, Don did better IMO in the Herbie movies.
