Donovan Ezeiruaku had surgery for hip labrum tear

Unless there was a medical reason not to do so, this should've been done immediately after the season ended.
Exactly.

I give veterans a pass when they “strategically” have these surgeries late in the offseason to conveniently miss camp, but a young player like him shouldn’t be doing that.

That said, I don’t know all the facts but it’s weak sauce if that’s what he was doing.

Mine is a bit shredded and they wont fix it because of arthritis. I hear though that surgery doesn't alway take the pain away and it best just to strengthen the muscles surrounding the acetabular joint to keep it centered. I get a steroid injection every year or so when it starts to act up and that has helped so far.

Maybe, just maybe, he was trying to get a 2nd opinion on the best course of action for his injury. And that's why it took so long. Why must everyone assume that he did this to avoid the offseason activities? No one knows.

We really need to bring in two free agent pass rushers. I thought that before the EZ news.

We don’t have the specifics so I can’t bash EZ, but this isn’t good. Of all the guys we really need to see a big 2nd year leap forward from he is top of the list. He certainly still can but it gets tougher when a young player misses significant time of his first full offseason with the team. Edge is becoming a massive issue if EZ isn’t 100%. The current depth chart is extremely thin.

Oh ye of little faith.
Parker will scheme it up with his personally fitted players.

And that second level of linebackers is "somewhat thin" as well. -sarcasm extreme

Did I mention offensive tackle?
Oh, it's a defensive thread, my bad.

Go Cowboys!

EZ should have plenty of time to get his hip back in shape to enter the season in good shape.

Let's hope the Cowboys are destined to take a promising DE to attend to pass rushing duties.

I'd expect they were likely preparing to take the best one available to serve that duty anyway.

I realize how much they are counting on him, but I don’t see the problem. He isn’t missing any camp according to this report.

It could actually be good news, as that injury was likely slowing him down. He showed promise, but it could have been even better.

We don’t know a thing here. Surgery is usually the last resort, so it’s possible he was trying to avoid it then went ahead with it once the deadline came to not miss any camp.

Zero story, and I’m not pinning this one on the team. For the 6-8 of you around here that still support this FO, enjoy it. Wont happen often.

Yeah I honestly could see this. I can’t see him doing it to avoid activities while he’s on his rookie deal.

I never think of labrum being in the hip. Reminder what a huge need pass rusher is in addition to every level of the defense.

So the only edge player worth a darn currently on the roster is recovering from hip surgery. Just lovely.. .

Hopefully Bain falls to 12. I dont care how short his arms may be

I partially agree. There is a positive way to look at this and it very well could be that this injury was holding EZ back, and this could be good news for his long term outlook.

Still a 2nd year player you hate to lose for the bulk of the offseason....plus hip injuries are no joke. Its one of those that if rushed tend to have high reinjury rates. It's a tough injury because it's so hard to keep your strength/conditioning up without pushing it too hard. Hopefully he's closer to 100% come June and has a couple months to really push his strength training before camp starts. If not we may not really see a 100% NFL ready to go version of EZ week 1.

The Cowboys will likely be without edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku until training camp. Last year’s second-round pick needed surgery to repair a hip labrum injury he played through at the end of his rookie year. The 44th pick in 2025 played in all 17 games, finishing with 40 tackles, two sacks, nine tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits and a forced fumble. Dallas is extremely thin at edge rusher with several additions expected in free agency and the draft. Ezeiruaku is expected to make a full recovery and be a full-time starter after starting nine games last season. - Jon Machota
I'm hoping they determined that playing through it would not set him back from being ready at the start of the following season. Because I cannot understand why he would play through something and delay surgery in a lost season.

If they’re saying he should be back before TC, then I’m thinking he will miss most of TC.. and obviously they won’t play him much during PS games.

Too bad, he really needed to be very active this preseason with the new DC and scheme.
