Guys, dont give up on Pettiti, it takes time in NFL to learn postition, look at Erik Williams for example, his first year, didnt play at all, best i remember, second year, he got manhandled by Reggie White, but he held his own, sometimes, Erik said after that first time against Reggie, no one would manhandle again, and may i remind you, in title games against eagles he did just that. Then, you add in Mark Tuneii, it took him 5 years to blossom, first year, being swithed over from defense to offense, 2nd or 3rd year, alittle time at center, even look at Jordan Gross at carolina, took him 3 years to take over. Greg Ellis gave him a lesson or two in 2003.
Second, Pettiti if properly motivated, 6-6, 335, about 5.26 in 40 reported speed when in shape, his problem has been not playing with high motivation, need i remind you, the great pass rusher for the Colts, Freeney, Pettiti manhandled him his first year at Pittsburgh i think. So, give his dad, and Parcells time to motivate him, get him a good offseason to work out, get more power, alittle more quickness, then, look out. Parcells knows offensive lineman, look at Jumbo Elliott, the offensive tackle we got from Jets in 2003 as a free agent, he was a 6th draft pick, then remember Fabini, another 6th pick for jets, whom Parcells picked, so give Pettiti time. Sure, he has got to want it for himself. I see some of these problems as players desires, especially on offense do they have the deep deep desire to win, pay the price. I remember in 1975, when Rayfield Wright, another great offensive tackle, took him 3 years to come into his own, first year, was at tight end, anyway, Rayfield spent extra time an hour to 2 hours after practice was over working with Harvey Martin to become a better DE. Players have to want to, the coaches dont play, the players do, they have to want to, have to want to not make dumb mistakes. All saying, execution, do the players really want to. Thats the bottom line, so give Pettiti a chance. I'm not saying he is great or will be, like Pete Hunter, he had all talent in world, but didnt want to do what coach told him. Just like Todd Christensen, whom Coach Landry told him, his position would be at TE, he balked, got mad and left to Oakland, and what does Oakland do, turns him into great TE. Its what great coaches like Parcells and Landry see in you, what you can become, you have to trust them, put forth the effort, and really want to. cowboyjoe

If anybody is giving up on a rookie 7 games into his career, they really shouldn't be following football in the first place.

In a past press conference, Parcells said that Pettiti has a lot more physical talent than Fabini.

Can someone please save a list of those quittin on Pettiti. So that way in another year or 2 when he is in the Pro-Bowl we can make them eat crow.

Sorry but I will not quit on a rookie who has all of 7 NFL games played. A rookie who not only dropped down from 370 lbs to the weight Parcells wanted him at...but BELOW THE WEIGHT Parcells asked for. Parcells wanted him at 335 lbs. Pettiti dropped to under 330.

Thank God some of those quittin on him are not coaches.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid! Pettiti is a stop-gap at best..........we've been successful in spite of ourselves on the O-Line, especially with Riviera, Pettitti and an aged Larry Allen. Hence the Coache's not being aggressive in the play calling..........

We will address in the draft, but let's set "Realistic Goals" in that the way we play, and the conservative nature in which we play it......we're a 8-8 team!

I'm sorry, but you'd have to be a moron to give up on the kid when he's only played 7 games in his pro-career.

I don't think anyone is giving up on the kids, its just human nature for people to vent after a shocking lose. Do really think people were going to give up on Roy after the Washington game? They were just mad and rightfully so. These two games were not supposed to be loses and its alot easier to blame a guy when their mistakes are so out in the open to see. Trust me there were other mistakes by players that cost us to get negative yardage on plays this year, but couldn't be seen.

I'm sorry to correct you but you can go back and look at the tape and you are wrong about Big E. Erik Williams as a rookie played Reggie White to a standstill and by his 2nd year he dominated him up until the knee injury. It was one of the greatest feats I've ever seen of an OL, much less a rookie.

You are thinking about Larry Allen in '94 who replaced an injured big E and who got abused by Reggie when Reggie got under his pads and tossed him aside like a rag doll.

That never happened to Big E.

White also did it to Big E in Big E's rookie year .
After that big E owned him.
It was that swim move. It just got both Allen and Big E off balance . that is all . They both corrected it quickly.
Almost all Offensive linemen have growing pains their first year , just the nature of the beast.

Do you realize how many players are picked in the late rounds each year that never end up doing anything in their NFL careers? Just because you can name a few select guys who ended up good doesn't mean anything.

Yes, it's possible Pettiti could end up being a servicable right tackle, but right now it's not looking too good. He was a 6th round pick, and he's playing like a 6th round pick. Pettiti's weaknesses are not things you can teach.

It's not his fault though, he should only be used for depth at best, he's not an NFL quality starting tackle and everyone coming into the draft knew that. The fact that line is still in such putrid shape 3 years into Bill Parcells' tenure puts the blame squarely on his shoulders.

Big E was my man. I loved his play. Yeah he made stupid penalties at times but he was BIG, NASTY, STRONG, AGGRESSIVE, and CONSISTENT. He flatout PUNISHED his opponent. Pettiti's gonna be fine too. Wait til he gets another year of weights and conditioning under his belt. He's gonna be tough....

Erik Williams never faced Reggie White as a rookie. He started only three games as a rookie, facing the Cardinals (left tackle), Giants (left tackle) and Commanders (right tackle). It was Williams' SECOND season when he faced Reggie White and was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Ok, I bow to the king of statistics and numbers. :)

But my point is that many people confuse Larry Allen's play against Reggie with Big E. Big E never got abused by Reggie pre-knee injury. NFC offensive player of the week the first season he faced Reggie White in Reggie's prime is beyond belief.

Big E really became the nasty player everyone remembers after the knee injury when he had to compensate for the lack of mobility.
