Guys, dont give up on Pettiti, it takes time in NFL to learn postition, look at Erik Williams for example, his first year, didnt play at all, best i remember, second year, he got manhandled by Reggie White, but he held his own, sometimes, Erik said after that first time against Reggie, no one would manhandle again, and may i remind you, in title games against eagles he did just that. Then, you add in Mark Tuneii, it took him 5 years to blossom, first year, being swithed over from defense to offense, 2nd or 3rd year, alittle time at center, even look at Jordan Gross at carolina, took him 3 years to take over. Greg Ellis gave him a lesson or two in 2003.
Second, Pettiti if properly motivated, 6-6, 335, about 5.26 in 40 reported speed when in shape, his problem has been not playing with high motivation, need i remind you, the great pass rusher for the Colts, Freeney, Pettiti manhandled him his first year at Pittsburgh i think. So, give his dad, and Parcells time to motivate him, get him a good offseason to work out, get more power, alittle more quickness, then, look out. Parcells knows offensive lineman, look at Jumbo Elliott, the offensive tackle we got from Jets in 2003 as a free agent, he was a 6th draft pick, then remember Fabini, another 6th pick for jets, whom Parcells picked, so give Pettiti time. Sure, he has got to want it for himself. I see some of these problems as players desires, especially on offense do they have the deep deep desire to win, pay the price. I remember in 1975, when Rayfield Wright, another great offensive tackle, took him 3 years to come into his own, first year, was at tight end, anyway, Rayfield spent extra time an hour to 2 hours after practice was over working with Harvey Martin to become a better DE. Players have to want to, the coaches dont play, the players do, they have to want to, have to want to not make dumb mistakes. All saying, execution, do the players really want to. Thats the bottom line, so give Pettiti a chance. I'm not saying he is great or will be, like Pete Hunter, he had all talent in world, but didnt want to do what coach told him. Just like Todd Christensen, whom Coach Landry told him, his position would be at TE, he balked, got mad and left to Oakland, and what does Oakland do, turns him into great TE. Its what great coaches like Parcells and Landry see in you, what you can become, you have to trust them, put forth the effort, and really want to. cowboyjoe
