Don't Insure your Emotions, Dallas fans!

There are always a good percentage of rabid fans who suddenly decide that the prospect of their teams losing is too much to handle. These people decide that if they prepare themselves for loss, it will be easier to consume when it actually happens. This makes for wishy-washing fans, without conviction or care, who reach for the most ridiculous reasons why their team will fail (Romo in Mexico, December swoon, Wade has never won before, no momentum going into the playoffs...etc.)

Well for those of you who have been invaded by this syndrome...WAKE UP DALLAS!!!

(Clearly, not all of you are suffering from "Emotional Insurance Syndrome", but if you are not, you need to wake the significant number of Dallas fans who are.)

You have the best team in the NFC, without a doubt. If TO does NOT play, which I view as a near certainty, you should crush the Giants going away. If TO somehow does play, so much the better.

You have a great team...start acting like it!!!

Another psychological issue this board exhibits is idea that all opponents that the Cowboys play will play the perfect game against them. (I call this the "Right End Bell Curve" psychosis, since these types of people tend to think that all opponents will play at the highest possible level, regardless of how the home team does.)

Look around the NFC, people. Who has a better team than you do? The Giants have more significant injuries (even if you include TO) and a QB who can easily be demoralized. The Packers are young and Brett Favre plays like a dog pile in Dallas. If Seattle gets through to you, you'll eat them alive.

I'm a Patriots' fan, but I have nothing but respect for Dallas and the fans. The only way Dallas can lose this thing is if you fans show up at the stadium and quickly fade away at the first sign that the Giants might actually show up. (God forbid the Giants score first!)

What will a stadium of crazy, screaming fans do to Eli Manning when the Dallas pass rush is charging in? If you think the Cowboys lack momentum, the only way for a fan to help is to kick it up a notch. Make Texas Stadium ROCK!

Good luck this weekend. Show the rest of America the power of the Lone Star State!

:star: Forgive my rant. Go Cowboys.

Good post.

But why do I get the feeling an "insider" made up an alias just to stir up the masses? ;)

Yeah, it was a good, rousing speech until I got to the "I'm a Patriots' fan" part.

I have no reason to doubt his sincerity, but still...

Good post. Some of it anyways.

Right back atcha with some Pats love. I actually like the Pats.
BUT.... things are different now. Spygate is what it is... you guys cheated... maybe still are... who knows. Its tainted.

I am glad that the Jags are not letting it die.

I must add. I am not so sure the Pats make it through the playoffs this year.
You could be staring a choke season right in the eye.

Because thats how it will be viewed.... then throw Spygate back in.

But hey... thanks for that post.

Thanks for the kinds words and encouragement. Some fans are simply skeptical that this year is real.

Great post and very much needed at this time.
Too many nervous Cowboy fans on this board.

Why why why are you so affraid.
Our first playoff matchup is against a team we've beaten comfortably twice.

I'll tell you what's happening with these fans and I said this yesterday in a different thread.

They're looking at all the bad things that could happen. All the good things the Giants could do.

They're letting these could'ves fester into should'ves.

Myself I'm not affraid for the Cowboys I know they can win if they go out and execute like they can. I will and always have shown respect for the team Dallas is facing and I don't take wins for granted.

I hope everyone here enjoys the game as much as I will.

If they don't take the Giants for granted, the Cowboys should win, but if they don't take the Giants seriously and look ahead to next week, they'll be watching next week. The Giants got where they are by being gritty. They'll be in it for all 60 minutes and if the Boys trivialize them, they may get their heads handed to them.

Hope the Boys win but I'm going to enjoy the game no matter who wins. I quit getting depressed over football games played by other people a long time ago. For me, the joy of the team winning lives on after the game but the sadness of the team losing dies with the final gun since I didn't play, anyway. It's just not my problem.

Yeah, I know, it's a cop-out but it preserves my insanity in a recognizeable form.:

I'm gonna be worried, depressed, doubtful, and really on edge this week, so i'm not buying what you are selling thank you very much.

Great post.

I do find it sad though that some Cowboys fans on this forum definitely needed something like this to renew their optimism.

My wife is from Wisconsin. I'm a consultant, she's a physician (not a shrink (-;)

As much as I'd love to go back to Western Massachusetts (where nobody has an accent), this placid state my home.

From here, I have a great, great view of the NFC's second best team, the Packers, especially since my wife's family has season tickets. I can tell you with high confidence that the last time you played them was NOT A FLUKE. You have the better team.

I agree that spygate was a huge stain on the Patriots. I gave me a sick feeling, still does.

To Bill's (evil?) credit, he turned the whole thing around to be motivation for the club. He created a "bunker mentality" that pits the team against everyone in the NFL. The fans have bought into that hook, line and sinker.

If you are a Patriot opponent, the worst thing you can say pre-game (besides a guarantee) is that the Patriots are cheaters. It may be true that they were, but rubbing it in their faces just fires them up.

I've always liked the Cowboys, especially their fan base, which is usually supremely well-informed and spirited.

Right now your team is getting stoked to win the whole ball of wax. If they see their fans start to wilt, a bit of doubt may start to creep into their minds.

DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN.

This is exactly what BOSTON RED SOX fans had to deal with for so many years: A fan base that had no hope and it brought the whole franchise -- nay, the whole city -- down. This did not stop until the country rallied behind the Patriots in 2002. The Pats won the Super Bowl, the whole Boston sports scene changed dramatically. Our fans and teams gained confidence and now the Sox are two-time champions. Make no mistake: The Patriots were responsible for that as much as Curt Shilling.

If you think and act as if a December swoon is inevitable, then it will happen. If you boo Romo after his first mistake, will that ensure he does not make another?

Call up the local radio shows! Tell them that you know this team is great, you know that they have what it takes to win the Super Bowl!!!! Treat them as you would your own family. Give them the confidence they need to succeed.

I'd love to see the Patriots and the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. More than that, I don't want to see one of the greatest franchises in the history of the NFL implode because their fans lost focus.
