Don't understand the anger

The anger isn't about Gregory it is about the sum of the offseason to date.

They had no plan B if Gregory walked and for some odd reason didn't even consider C. Jones, Miller, or Z. Smith.

We lost Cooper, still haven't signed Kearse, who knows what the plan is at LB and LG.

Add in 27 years of doing nothing and you end up with a fanbase that is fed up and wants to see Jerry's willing to do whatever it takes to win in motion.

If they wanted Gregory that bad like people said they should have franchised him and not Schultz. Could have had OJ Howard for half of what Schultz tag costs and then dealt with Gregory contract.
and thats 100% right. Tagging a decent TE while leaving your better rush DE dangling is a bad mistake or shows a level of arrogance...OR could be we never really wanted him that bad.

well said

20M to tag him, they couldn't do that and already had Schultz tagged at 11M.
So I guess Schultz was the higher priority. That's their prerogative. I am not a fan of Shcultz. He catches the ball when he is open. Golf clap. He cannot block a traffic cone and the running game is a big part of our success against GOOD teams. I am a Cowboys fan so I want nothing but success for Schultz...but just not a fan of what I've seen so far...especially when it comes to what I think THIS team needs to get over the hump.

I think we really never truly wanted him, otherwise..we tag him. That was either a gross miscalculation by the Jones family, or was all by design. Very strange.

We wanted him, but at very specific terms. I think they expected loyalty, only Randy didn't believe he was being treated fairly. We can all argue what fair is, but his perception is his reality. Our opinions don't matter.

Im not mad , I'm just miffed at HOW this was handled by the team and the way we seem to be viewing this offseason in general. Its like they are living in bizzarro world. UNPLUGGED from reality. Then again, its just been 26 years.

I get it. I guess my post was directed at the people who feel RG "did the Cowboys" wrong. Again...sign who you want. But being mad because a FREE AGENT chose to sign elsewhere? Don't get it. It's like the Dak thing. If you did not want to OVERPAY Dak...guess what...you DID NOT HAVE TOO!!!!!!!!! You could have had Dak at Carson Wentz money long before it got to where we are now! It's like the Jones Boys feel as if the NFL should operate on THEIR terms. We need to see Dak more. Okay. Seeing Dak more may or may not cost you. That was the risk. And that is what happened!!!!!!!!

Here is my guess... They wanted both but were scared to lose Schultz more. I'm sure they thought Gregory would be easy to simply resign. Then Denver makes an offer so they get on the phone to try to salvage it. They send over the contract that has the same language everybody's crying about that was in his last contract but this time it's actually noticed. Rather than screw around and negotiate on that point Gregory just goes with the Denver offer since they made it first and maybe in his mind seem to want him more. To me it boils down to like a lot of people do.. trying to get too cute and get everything you want.

People mad about us not having a Plan B? Plan A was garbage, even if it worked and RG returned. Then what? Okay, so you are rolling with the same team that messed the bed against the Niners and couldn't beat a winning team all year, MINUS Cooper and Wilson. What, the 24th pick in the draft would suddenly make up for the losses and put us over the top? Please. We are going nowhere in 2022, and Daddy & Son are just fine with that. I mean, they've got Wrestlemania coming up.

we easily could have either tagged Randy instead of a TE..or rescinded it and use it on Randy. That was a fatal mistake.

Just the thought of this makes me HATE loving a team being run by the Jones family. I simply cannot stand them!

I'm not even saying Randy is right or wrong, I just hate how we chose to conduct the entire offseason to date. Its been wrought with buffoonery. Terrible optics.

By invested so much "time and energy" do you mean the 2nd round pick they invested? The draft is a crap shoot....and in this case....it wasn't even a crap shoot...they KNEW what they were drafting. At anytime they could have cut him. It's not like they were PAYING him while he was suspended. And guess what? Had they cut him....someone else would have given him a chance. Just like teams have done for Josh Gordon and Aldon Smith. So the "time and energy" was because they wanted a payoff for the 2nd round pick they gave up. But once the conversation came down to REAL money...either they wanted him or not. And the minute they slipped....another team was there to swoop in.

After 30+ years they have ZERO business making these kinds of mistakes. You are not ENTITLED to have him on YOUR terms once he hit free agency! The sense of ENTITLEMENT is killing this franchise. Jerry has given us so many instances where we get insight on how he thinks....I will never forget him stating that a state of the art stadium would elevate the level of play of the Cowboys.....but completely ignoring this same state of the art stadium will elevate how hard the opposition will COMPETE on that stage and stadium! They ONLY look at the NFL through the ENTITLEMENT of silver and blue glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No by time and energy I mean the six years of suspension appeals and rehab programs.

Because it was what it should never have been, personal. That's why Booger got involved, to save the day and play the "Luke, I am your father" card.

Booger thinks Gregory should have some blind loyalty to him, and he damn near did until the son showed up, but Booger failed to see that as a two-way street.

They've never learned the lesson and never will. The Niners, with the best team assembled in the league, began to dismantle it for a new team and in doing so let the stars go first, Montana, Rice and Lott but they planned on that. The Joneses do not look that far ahead. Aikman, Irvin and Woodson caught them unprepared.
Unfortunately Jerry still believes that players should be loyal to the organization and in a way he is right but that is not the world we live in. Some of these players come from broken homes so trust is not something that they are too keen on.

If the Cowboys wanted Gregory on THEIR terms...then don't let him to get to free agency.

You let him get to free agency (not debating if this was justified or not)....but you let him get to free agency...then he is FREE...and they have to deal with him on HIS terms. It's not more complicated than that.

If they don't understand or like that....then they are in the wrong line of work. He was a FREE agent! And if you did not want him to be a FREE agent....then franchise him or extend him before he becomes a FREE agent!

This is the NFL. This is a BUSINESS. If you want to operate a mom and pop shop...then sell the team and open a nursery!

This more than anything is 1 in 100 reasons why the Jones family should not be running a NFL franchise. Times and things have changed...either change with them or get what you got. Players are businessman...and they SHOULD be!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because guess what....that is what the Jones family is.....BUSINESS people!!!!!!!!!
If they wanted him it would have been wise to have signed him before FA
Now they may have tried but if they didn’t that was a fail
But had they signed him the same people complaining about losing him would be complaining about signing
That’s just the bipolar nature of the board

I think Randy will flame out in Denver within 2 years. Yes we dodged a bullet, but we still badly mismanaged things. I guess thats my issue, the perceived bungling.

Yep. This is our sad reality.
My guess is they did not know-how to value him and wanted the market to set it for them.
I read that they were matching the Broncos offer.
Our lack of a competent GM is really hurting us.
We are at a tremendous competitive disadvantage.
