Stallworth suspended for a year

Posted by Mike Florio on August 13, 2009 9:57 AM ET
A league source tells us that Browns receiver Donte' Stallworth has been suspended for the entire 2009 season.

The suspension comes in the wake of Stallworth's guilty plea to felony DUI manslaughter in Florida.

Stallworth previously had been suspended indefinitely by Commissioner Roger Goodell, pending a full review of the case.

UPDATE: The league has confirmed the suspension, via a press release. Stallworth will be reinstated after the Super Bowl.

Shouldn't be allowed to play ever..

He killed someone.

I wouldn't have a problem with that either.

What I can't fathom is how Leonard Little is still allowed to play. Not only did he kill someone, but then he continued to drunk drive after that.

IMO, Stallworth needs to be on the shortest of leashes. If he steps out of line one little bit he should be gone.

Different commissioner.

Goodell is no Tagliabue.

I think Tags was good for the business side of the league, but I think Goodell is good for the discipline for the league.

Agreed but then there is that Little thing that probably kept that from happening.

At least Goodell came down on him and took a year away from him. That's better than nothing.

I also agree he should be on the shortest of leashes, without a doubt.

I agree.

And on that ESPN interview, the way he described it is "we collided."

No, you ran over the guy.

the guy was jay walking across a highway, not exactly safe no matter whether stallworth was drunk or not.

both of them are morons.

So he deserved to die for jaywalking?

Of course not. But it's enough for the Celebrities Are Being Unfairly Treated Brigade to cry about it.

Yes he was jay walking, and holds some blame in his own death, but if the moron driving the car hadn't been drunk and speeding he could have avoided hitting him anyway.

Someone else being a moron doesn't excuse Stalworth from willingly drinking, and then driving, and adding speeding on top of that. He deserves whatever punishments he gets for that.

Certainly not... but it is reasonable to believe that a sober driver, in the same situation, might have hit him too.

I believe it is fair punishment.

I am not familiar with the entire case but I didn't know the victim was Jaywalking.

This doesn't excuse Stalworth's actions or doesn't mean the victim deserved to die, but when you Jaywalk, you are taking a risk.

keep in mind that Dontae is also serving a 2 year house arrest... so interest in him in 2010 may be severely limited.

he deserved something for being stupid enough to try to run across a highway.

I don't know if anyone deserves to die, but this guy was a moron.

Bingo!!! You're exactly right. I'm a courier for FedEx and have been for 22yrs and I come acroos this type of thing all the time and have had close calls. Sober or not, it's difficult to see a person jaywalking in a not so well lit area, especially if they're wearing dark clothing. It's extremely possible for a accident to occur.

you have a chip on your shoulder about celebs, just an FYI

and stallworth swerved across multiple lanes to try to avoid the guy, and the guy kept running in front of him.

no one is taking up for a celeb, just stating the obvious that the guy who got himself killed wasn't the brightest bulb.
