Who if anyone from our 06 Draft class is really helping our team?

Was our draft a bust or is it too early to call?

too early

Carp had to change positions and is behind Brady James (it took James 3 years to develop)
Fasano has been playing pretty well
Hatcher is hurt but was starting to catch on
Green - here is where we dropped the ball big time. We should have taken Gostkowski. Good on fg's and awesome on kickoffs.
Stanley - bad pick
Watkins - give the kid time
McQ could be a good one in time

Too early to call, but I sure wouldn't think you could label anyone but Green a bust and that could still work out.

Carpenter has played sparingly and is a disappointment at this point, but he's by no means a bust.

Hatcher has done more than we expected, he was considered a "down the road project"

Fasano has played alot and should continue to increase his role.

Watkins and McQuistan show nice talent for late picks.

All the players we got we're developmental players at this stage in our franchise.

Bobby Carpenter - We're moving him around at linebacker inside and outside. I think we'll drop Singleton next year, and move Carpenter back to outside linebacker. I wouldn't call him a bust just yet.

Anthony Fasano - A tight end isn't a flashy pick, but it is going to help create a new offensive scheme that is going to allow us to continue moving the chains easier. Rookie tight ends always need to improve their blocking. Imagine him in year 2 and 3. And what he can do for this offense.

Jason Hatcher - I think he was doing really well before he got hurt. Can't wait to get him back in the lineup.

Skyler Green - Is about to show us whether he was worth it or not. Hopefully he can help us on punt returns and kick returns, now that Tyson is probably done for the year.

Pat Watkins - A little dissapointed in him, but hopefully he gains experience in practice enough for him to return to the starting lineup. He is obviously the guy we want at FS. He just needs to see the ball better. We still have over a half of the season to play, I think he can turn it around.

Hurd has already paid dividends.

Stanley (cut), McQuistan, Whitley* (IR), Obviously haven't shown me anything to be pleased with.

I agree. I just think it's way too early to call it one way or another.

As for Carpenter, it's certainly disappointing that he hasn't made more of an impact, and that he hasn't been on the field more. The amount of talent on that side of the ball prolly has a lot to do with that.

We deemed two linebackers expendable (Fujita & Shanle) - both starting for what could be a playoff team.

Someone might want to check this, but Norm Hitzges mentioned there are a few first round picks around the league who have been inactive for much of the season. I'm too lazy to research.

I'm interested in player development, which seems to get lost in these discussions. That doesn't always lend itself to performance early on.

It's too early to say for sure, but the Cowboys have fewer rookies making significant contributions than most teams I've watched. I disagree that most or all of the players in this draft were developmental players. This team is just not good enough to draft developmental players early. In fact, this team is not good enough to draft them late.

Yes, Skyler Green was a bad pick, especially as early as the 4th rd. I disagree who we should have taken instead. Rob Sims, a 2-3 rd. player who slipped down to the 4th would have been a steal at that spot....or Elvis Dumervil, who was taken one spot after Green. Elvis now leads all Denver defenders with 5 sacks this year, which is twice as much as the next player or DeMarcus Ware.

So, I would say, judging the early predictions, this was not a very good draft. Here's hoping Carp & Watkins can come on the next few years to make it average, at least.

If McQuistan pans out, I'd say we had a pretty good draft. I can see Carpenter, Fasano, Hatcher, Watkins, and possibly McQuistan contributing significantly over the next 5+ years. That would be hitting on 5 of 8 draft picks (one of whom didn't even make it through training camp because of injury). I'll take that hitting percentage any day.
