Opening a discussion here began by a post on the BtB site...

=======================

Scandrick? First, I never take a rumor as being self-evidently somewhat legit.

Never. Too easy in the Twitter age for even honestly-intended statements to get translated differently than intended.

And so it's not difficult at all for me to believe Jerry's verbals and non-verbals on that one.

Besides that, I can easily dismiss that anyone would be silly enough to think we could get a 3rd round pick in exchange for Scandrick at this point... the whole idea is nonsensical on its face.

I will grant that "down the road it could spell trouble for the veteran"... certainly, but that Scandrick probably will be let go before this long contract ends was not all that novel a notion even before the draft anyhow... but if he performs with the chip on his shoulder that he's well renown for doing when challenged, I feel pretty confident that, in fact, Red and his coaches strongly covet Scandrick's leadership among that young group this season.

Lucky? Yes, but before we get ahead of ourselves, 4th rounders until very recently haven't been the Cowboys' historical strong suit (not that 3rd day drafting is anyone's "strong" suit). I don't think Lucky goes down without a fight, and he does have some support among those he's played with that he's got a future in the league (... the new CBS analyst among them).

But I do agree that, all things being equal, Switzer was drafted with an eye toward both--taking over Lucky's role, and establishing himself well enough by the end of 2018 that they have an alternative to paying Beasley big bucks...

Really, no question about it, they're thinking a couple of years ahead, and Stephen practically said as much when he talked in the 3rd day presser about how free agency does hold some influence on how they make decisions... which comes into play for both Lucky and Scandrick where this discussion is concerned.

Heath/Frazier? Not so fast.

Can he play SS? Based on what we've been told, including by the player himself (see below), yes he can.

But you look at his size, and he's much more in-line with what you generally see at FS.

So I'm very hesitant to give him instant equality with a guy who has stuck around a few years now and has gotten an earned reputation for some hard hitting and production, and with another who we drafted last year and was called a Barry Church clone.

I'm more inclined to think Woods will have a chance in 2017 to make a name for himself as a gunner on special teams, and otherwise to be a defensive backfield rotation guy.

People keep mentioning Scandrick but his position as a slot is more stable than Carrolls. What would you be thinking if your him. Sign as a free agent and they pick up three more corners.

Scandrick is a clear loser. He may stick for one more year but this draft definitely puts his roster spot in the crosshairs. He likely survives one more year because he's a veteran but he is gone for sure next year.

Lucky is as good as gone. He might as well not even show up for anything.

Heath/Frazier I don't see as losers. They are both young and can still carve out a role. Anyone who thought the team wouldn't bring in competition for them was fooling themselves. In fact, they should consider themselves luck the team didn't draft 2.

I agree. Scandrick is the most veteran, skilled and overall best corner we have ... right now. Next year is a different story. This year? Stupid to let him go.

I think Heath is on a one year trial. Which he should. Is he a situational guy or can he be a full time starter? Either way we are covered. Frazier is a ST guy nothing more.

Lucky? Well ... bye

I would definitely go along with lucky having his run of luck gone south.

Good point. I don't think Carroll plays the slot. He is in for it if these rookies can show up even a little bit.

Much like Free was the respected leader and old man of the OL, Oscan will fill that role in the secondary......until he can't. Might be 2-4 years.

Remember, he was still rehabbing last year, he been very athletic, and may not actually be in decline for quite a while.

I don't think Frazier will start this year but I also haven't seen him play enough to know whether he's solely a ST guy, a potential starter or something in between. I don't think anybody outside the organization would have a clue on him yet. I know there are some folks within the organization that are fairly high on him.

Orlando should be let go this year. NO reason to keep him a year or two because let the players play. Done deal. If Dallas believes in this change and draft, play it, go with it.

Lucky, no need to fight we already know what we have in him. Again let the new guy play. Might have more potential and defintely a better weapon on offense.

Heath, let him compete, play the best man.

I still believe in Oscan and dont expect a rookie to push him off the field. Fire him up and I think he comes out swinging. As far as Heath goes I think hes a player. Hes made the most of his limited opportunities and continued to improve. I am excited to watch him compete.

Lucky is an ignorant scrub, I doubt he makes the team this year.

Whitehead should be sweating bullets. Switzer is a guy who will plant his foot and decisively run North and South on every return. Knowing that, how could someone with a propensity of running sideline to sideline on returns NOT be nervous right now?

Funny how people have been counting Oscan out most of his career, but he just keeps coming back.

Maybe some of the stupids can inform me, why would Scandrick be in trouble?
