Opening a discussion here began by a post on the BtB site...

Scandrick? First, I never take a rumor as being self-evidently somewhat legit.
Never. Too easy in the Twitter age for even honestly-intended statements to get translated differently than intended.
And so it's not difficult at all for me to believe Jerry's verbals and non-verbals on that one.
Besides that, I can easily dismiss that anyone would be silly enough to think we could get a 3rd round pick in exchange for Scandrick at this point... the whole idea is nonsensical on its face.
I will grant that "down the road it could spell trouble for the veteran"... certainly, but that Scandrick probably will be let go before this long contract ends was not all that novel a notion even before the draft anyhow... but if he performs with the chip on his shoulder that he's well renown for doing when challenged, I feel pretty confident that, in fact, Red and his coaches
strongly covet Scandrick's leadership among that young group this season.
Lucky? Yes, but before we get ahead of ourselves, 4th rounders until very recently haven't been the Cowboys' historical strong suit (not that 3rd day drafting is anyone's "strong" suit). I don't think Lucky goes down without a fight, and he does have some support among those he's played with that he's got a future in the league (... the new CBS analyst among them).
But I do agree that, all things being equal, Switzer was drafted with an eye toward both--taking over Lucky's role, and establishing himself well enough by the end of 2018 that they have an alternative to paying Beasley big bucks...
Really, no question about it, they're thinking a couple of years ahead, and Stephen practically said as much when he talked in the 3rd day presser about how free agency does hold some influence on how they make decisions... which comes into play for
both Lucky and Scandrick where this discussion is concerned.
Heath/Frazier? Not so fast.
Can he play SS? Based on what we've been told, including by the player himself (see below), yes he can.
But you look at his size, and he's much more in-line with what you generally see at FS.
So I'm very hesitant to give him instant equality with a guy who has stuck around a few years now and has gotten an earned reputation for some hard hitting and production, and with another who we drafted last year and was called a Barry Church clone.
I'm more inclined to think Woods will have a chance in 2017 to make a name for himself as a gunner on special teams, and otherwise to be a defensive backfield rotation guy.
