Here's my final conversation with a knowledgable sports writer I've been friends with for 20+ years.

Chargers are still getting phone calls; chances of a tradedown are on the decline as SD is asking for #1 value in their offer since, in so many words, 'neither Wentz or Goff are really worth #1 and the #3 is the true #1 pick'. That's cooling some teams since, like it or not, Goff/Wentz are #1 and #2.

Assuming the pick stays, says SD big board is still unsettled. It's either Ramsey or Tunsil with Buckner a falling darkhorse now. Coaches are split between the two, but thinks when push comes to shove, it's better to pick the franchise OT vs. a franchise CB/S. Put the odds of Tunsil being drafted at 1:2 right now.

Dallas is still an interesting case study. Not sure if the Elliott talk that's springing up like wildfire is last minute jitters or simply implying the sales tactic of 'fear of loss'. Both Miami and SF covet Elliott so there's a line of thinking that Dallas is stiring this up last minute to ensure that someone leapfrogs them to grab Elliott so the Cowboys can ensure Ramsey falls to them. Dallas simply hasn't invested money or high picks into the position so why now? Much like my previous conversation, said this was the tightest Valley Ranch has ever been in terms of leaks (credits Stephen with that).

Still believes that it will be tough to see many more trades in the top ten as this is considered to have eight elite(ish) prospects. Two are off the board in Goff and Wentz which leaves Tunsil, Ramsey, Elliott, Bosa, Buckner, and Jack.

Speaking of Jack, knee recovery looks on target. Problem with knees is that you don't know how they'll hold up with a season of grind much less 5-10 years of work. Cleveland is most likely to take him.

While we're discussing knees, Jaylon Smith. A team will burn a pick for him in the 4th round but not prior to that. His dropfoot is a major concern as his game is built on athletcism. Much like Jack, don't pay attention to a ten second Twitter video and the odd Vine. Rehab simply isn't the same as the grind of a NFL year. Knows that most cold weather teams have removed him from their boards completely. He'll make his home in Cali, Arizona, Texas, Florida or the south to minimize problems with seasonality and the joint.

Unfortunately, that's all that was talked about as he had to run. Can't wait for Thursday!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, regardless, Dallas is in a win-win situation. We still will get an elite player at #4 or if we drop down, we'll get very good players and more of them.

As much as I want Elliott, I wouldn't cry if we don't take him. I think he would be the perfect fit, but we can draft Henry and may not miss a beat all that much. I think Henry could do much of what Elliott can but just slower and less elusive. All you need for this offense is an opening. As long as we don't need Henry to juke and run, I'm starting to settle on him.

But I think this front office has done well over the past few years. As strange as this may sound, I trust them.

that i agree but 5 years from now we will be debating whether to resign zeke especially if he picks up injuries.

If he picks up injuries, we won't be resigning him. Besides, if running backs are a dime a dozen (like many posters think), it should be no problem finding his replacement.

that is why i dont want a rb in the top 5,they are replaceable but a top cb or de are harder to come by.

Deion Sanders walked after his contract was up with the Falcons.
Julius Peppers walked after his contract was up with the Panthers.
Reggie White walked after his contract was up with the Eagles.

What makes you think a top CB or top DE will stay here? Because we're the Cowboys?

He'll want to make as much money too. And depending on our cap situation, he may choose the greener grass on the other side of the fence.

I think fans are too worried about five years down the road. You have to make the decisions that are before you. Let the future worry about the future.

Forget upgrading the pass rush with the fourth overall pick in this year’s draft.

If Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey is available when the Dallas Cowboys are on the clock next Thursday night, NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock thinks it’s an easy choice – grab the versatile, play-making defensive back.

“If he’s there, I think his athleticism and upside and the fact that he’s clean off the field is going to trump Joey Bosa,” Mayock said during a conference call with reporters on Friday.

“[Ramsey] can play corner, he can play safety. It makes things easier with making decisions with Byron Jones, [the Cowboys’ first-round pick last year]. Yeah, I think they have to pull the trigger if he’s there.”

But Mayock doesn’t think Ramsey will slip to the Cowboys. He believes the San Diego Chargers will select him with the third overall pick.

If they don't take Elliot I still wouldn't mind booker later on. In the few highlights I saw of him on youtube he looked very good.

Yes.I think Bosa and Ramsey are both worth it .

I respectfully disagree.

A DE that isnt projected to be a year in/out 12-14 sack guy and a CB that doesnt get interceptions shouldnt be in discussion as a top 5 pick.

Ramsey should be the pick at 4. This is a passing league and we need to seriously invest in putting athletes in the secondary..

I can't see San Diego passing up a franchise LT to protect Rivers unless some team is willing to trade up into that spot at 3..

I've said it before and I'll say it again, No Thanks on Bosa, let him become a bust elsewhere.

Elliott isn't my favorite running back in this class (Henry) but if Dallas want to grab him at 4 i wouldn't be upset with the pick. His guaranteed money at 4 would be a somewhat concern for me and could see a potential drop off in the 2nd and 3rd year until its time to play for his second contract again.

SD should absolutely take Tunsil bu they gave big contracts to to middling OTs with injury problems and maybe forced to pick Ramsey.

Barksdale has been consistent on SD's OL so I get why they paid him, Played 16 games in 3 straight years but with that being said..

"The Chargers had trouble keeping guys healthy in 2015, using seven different starting offensive line combinations. San Diego also used 24 different combinations up front in 2015 -- fourth-most in the NFL."

I like Ramsey and think there are prolly logical reasons his college numbers sucked, but calling him a "play-making defensive back" seems kind of silly.
