I was a young child when he played, but I do remember him, though I remember Tony Hill more. I actually remember the auto accident more than his playing career. What exactly is the reason that Drew has been blackballed from post-career accolades. He should have long been in the ROH and also the HOF, but yet he waits for both. Can someone in the know please give any details as to why he continues to be on the outside looking in.

Not sure about the HOF (he should be in IMO) but he is in the ROH, they put him in during the 2011 season. That took longer than it should have, no doubt about that. Honestly, there is zero reason why him and Cliff Harris aren't in the hall. Especially since they are the only two members of the 70s all decade first team that aren't in it. Bias and nothing more on the voters.

that's right, I forgot he got into the ROH......but yes, he and Cliff Harris should be in the HOF, along with Chuck Howley, Cornel Green, Harvey Martin, and either Ralph Neely or John Niland.

I pretty much just don't give much attention/personal legitimacy to the HoF while guys like Pearson are locked out.

I think it's more about the greatness of those Steeler teams of that time period and not so much Pearson and others have been overlooked.

Had Cliff Harris deflected that famous Lynn Swann catch and had Drew Pearson scored the winning TD pass in one of those STeeler\Cowboy games..

history would have been kinder.

But it wasn't and so its not.

I feel the same way about the controversial non-call on the Mel Renfro tipped pass to John Mackey that went for a TD to win the SB for the Colts in 71.

Could have should have.

Same as the Dez non-catch against the Packers last year.

Could have should have.

Blah.

Only two position players who were named to the All-Decade First Team for the 1970s are not in the Hall of Fame.

Both players were Dallas Cowboys -- Drew Pearson and Cliff Harris.

How does that compare for other decades?

Ironically, if a tight end that is in the hall of fame didn't drop a wide open touchdown in Super Bowl XIII both Harris and Pearson would more than likely be in the HOF already.

Why Jackie Smith? Why? I still can picture that drop and it still hurts as much as it did in my youth.

I extend legitimacy to the Pro Football Hall of Fame but pretty much spit at the feet of practically every single member of the Board of Selectors.

It's been speculated that a trademark dispute with Jerry which is detailed in the link below kept Pearson out of the ROH for years. Why Pearson isn't in the HOF very likely has to do with Swann and Stallworth pushing him out due to the Cowboys 2 SB losses to the Steelers in which both Swann and Stallworth out played him. Had the Cowboys won those games and Pearson had the MVP performance Swann did in SB X he would be in the HOF. Pearson should be in the HOF he was arguably the greatest clutch receiver of the 70's and was on the receiving end of one of the greatest plays in NFL history the Hail Mary. Pearson made the key block that freed Tony Dorsett on his NFL record 99 yard TD run and was a horse collar tackle away from rewriting the ending to the 81 NFC title game. He was the original 88 and was a HOF player in my opinion.

The local media member that is on the selection committee is the one that should stand on the table for their guy.

Unfortunately, that local media member is Rick "Goose" Gosselin and he is a complete turd that hates the Cowboys.

Always came across as a salty guy. Exactly the same reason why I take Haley's comments about Gregory with a grain of salt. Pearson was down on Dez Bryant too and look where Dez is now.

I have an appreciation for the older players, and love when they help the team or talk about the players, but they aren't coaches or anything. Ultimately their opinion on the team is just that.
