In order to get to the 4 game suspension don't you have to have tested positive for an illegal substance before hand. Like in Merrimans case, he gets tested, first offense, is a warning. Second offense its a 4 games suspension and 3rd is a year off.

So, wouldn't he have tested positive already and this is essentially his 2nd offense? Or am I wrong?

Steroids fall under a different policy. 1st is a 4 game, 2nd is 6, 3rd is 16.

Evidently Steroids policy is different. You can face suspension after testing the 1st time.

Speaking of... and I didn't notice a thread on this yet, so if this is a repost, my apologies...

Merriman's apparently NOT going to appeal the suspension. I just heard a teaser on PTI. I don't know if that means he's going to begin the suspension this week, but apparently he's not going to be challenging.

I'll go look it up and start a thread if I find it.
