Duke Manyweather works with all 5 Cowboys OL

I agree. Hoffman's scrappiness helps him survive but it doesn't make him any less powerful. Beebe has power in abundance. Hoffman is a great player to have as a backup, though.
Absolutely. Hoffman is a good backup but isn't going to ever be a dominant player. The fact that Beebe changed positions and rated top half of the league at his position with a lack of coaching says a lot about his ability. He is a beast.

I will say that Hoffman surprised me. I didn't think he was going to amount to much after the preseason where we cut him and placed him on the practice squad. But he worked hard to make himself into a quality NFL backup who stepped in as a starter for Martin and did well. Some team will likely give him a chance to start at center or guard once he becomes a free agent. Maybe the same for Bass and Richards. These players have done pretty well with the snaps they've been given.

Of course, that's why guard was not a priority for me in this draft. I have no problem with the Booker pick because he should be a foundational lineman for the next 10 years, but I probably would have addressed a weaker position. I mean, the next few picks included DT Kenneth Grant, TE Tyler Warren and DT Walter Nolen. Any of those could have been considered a bigger need, although I would have had trouble pulling the trigger on a tight end.

Immaturity, if you can even label it that, is vastly different than lazy. Kid was here working with Duke like 2 days after draft. Not the sign of a lazy person, he did that on his own.

Recommitted? You say that like it's a bad thing, first of all. It's a sign that he is growing up wants to master his craft and get better.

He hired a nutritionist and all reports are he's been working hard remaking his body is the off-season. Again not signs of laziness.

He was a 21 year old kid. There are plenty of things I didn't take seriously at that age, but didn't make me lazy.
Guyton was 23 years old during his rookie year (born in 2001).

People are probably wondering why he’s not an Oline coach. I can guarantee he gets paid more doing this.

Some great insight from an offensive line guru. Says Steele is back to normal as well as other good insights on the OL players.

:starspin:

You sure? Jerry has admitted he tells his HC what “he’d like to see more of,” meaning…do what I’m telling you to do.

It’s nice to talk about running the ball, but when you’re either behind in a game, or not having success, or losing games…all while not leaning on the best playmakers on your offense…they will be a pass first team before all that long.

If RB is such a consensus question mark, why do they think they will be able to run at will?

That’s why I’m skeptical on Guyton at LT and Steele at RT. The pass blocking is extremely shaky and it’s kinda dumb to put your franchise QB at such risk because you gave out a bad contract and/or blew a first rounder (as of now on the latter).

Things change if the light has gone on for Guyton when the bell rings.
We're a passing team anyway. This team is not going to be a run to set up the pass or play action off the run.

This is a passing team, and is a team set up to pass first in order to set up the run.

That's really how this league mostly works anyway.

Right, so then….more lip service. Attempting to talk things into existence.

The run the ball part is BS, but the “culture change” thing is legit. Got it.

We will get more of the same….the Jerry ego show that relies on Dak Prescott to be Dan Marino.

Me too. I still think his best position is RT. Solari did him no favors. In my opinion, our best 5 starters, left to right should be: Smith, Bebee, Hoffman, Booker, Guyton/Steele. Steele or Guyton can be the swing. Hoff never gets the cred he should. My eyes tell me he's the more effective center. That opinion will be very unpopular around here but it's what I see consistently when he was in there.
lol no. There is no film that will consistently backup the notion that Hoffman is a better center than Bebe. Because he is not

You sound like his agent or position coach or something lol. I don't care where he plays, as long as we have our best 5 on the field. You shouldn't care either. Just get our best 5 out there, line em up, coach them up. But I must say, Hoffman looked more ready to play center than the guy who hasn't since Highschool. But at guard, CB is a wrecking ball and should stay there. It's just my opinion and if this staff says differently, I'm good with it. I trust them. Last year's staff, not so much.

It's no contest when talking playing the guard position. Hands down, CB is much better than Hoffman. When strictly looking at center, it's close, but Hoffman is better, NOW. Maybe later CB will surpass him , but if we truly want the best 5, Hoffman should be the center. Guyton would be my RT. Steele the swing. Just want the best 5. But with the new oline coach and run game coordinating things, I trust whatever rendention of our oline they put out on the field. They will sort it out. It might just shock us what it looks like after Oxnard.

lol nah not his agent or coach but I watch a lot of film. And listen to guys who are oline coaches breakdown technique, hand placement, kick step etc. I’ve just seen too much film of the both of them and Hoffman is not better than Bebe. The team shows how they felt because when Hoffman was going to be our RG they went right out there and drafted a rookie Brooks. When he was going to be center last year they went right out and drafted Bebe. I’m not saying this to poopoo on Hoffman, he is a good backup and can hold down a few games for you as a starter. But he is not a full time starter, he doesn’t have the strength nor consistent technique. The fact that Bebe as a ROOKIE put better film out than Hoffman is telling. But hey we will see at training camp exactly how this all shakes down

The interior OL is beastly. It needs to be. Lots of good DTs are coming their way.

Any team that has dominant OL play is bound to make noise.
