I think it would be a huge mistake to cut Holland. Yeah, I know he's "just" a guard. But he plays guard at a starting caliber level when he's in there. Proctor may be more versatile, being able to play both guard and center. But he's nowhere near Holland's level of play.

Against the Steelers last season, with Holland in the starting lineup, we were DOMINATING the pro-bowl-studded, World Champion Pittsburgh Defense. Rookie Tashard choice was gashing them up the gut on slants and draws all night long. All night, that is, until Montrae Holland injured his leg and was lost for the game, only to be replaced by Proctor. Our running game went away, Romo's pass protection went down, an ugly interception later... and we lose that game.

Largely because we lost Montrae Holland from the lineup that night.

To cut Holland and keep Proctor for his "versatility" would rattle my sanity.

Please say it ain't so.

:starspin

Holland went down after only a couple of plays in the Pittsburgh game. Proctor played most of it. Losing Holland wasn't why we lost that game.

That said, I would hope we hang onto him. I realize he's a one position player but you will have a tough time convincing me he's worse than Gibbons, McQuistan or whomever. If he's good enough to be the lone guard reserve, what is the issue? Besides, I'd hate to have given up a fifth round choice in next year's draft to rent him for a year.

Please don't tell me we are going to keep Procter and cut Holland. I was just starting to feel really good about this team...

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if we cut both of them.

Does he have any experience at RT? I know he has played G/C, but if he has any ability at RT, that could save a spot.

Adams/Free
Kosier/Holland
Gurode/Preston
Davis/Preston
Columbo/Preston

8 OL - I know teams normally keep 9 but this would allow us to keep an extra LB/DB. Since we have to keep 2 kickers we need an extra spot somewhere.
One thing we should remember is that Kosier played tackle for San Francisco and I believe Detroit as well as playing guard. While guard is his natural position, it could be that he could slide over to right tackle and Holland could take his guard position if something happened to Columbo.

so your putting him on the level of H Walker - who was not that good here ?

:lmao:

oh my mistake he had three years here

86 - 730+ yards
87 - 890+ yards
88 - 1500+ yards on 361 carries

nice try he had 6 years(really 5.25)

and in the three years you mention in total yards

'86 1574
'87 1606
'88 2019

no I'm not saying Holland is as good as walker and frankly only an idiot could make that jump so good job on that.

I'm saying its dumb to give up a fifth for someone who you end up cutting because you will never know who you would have picked and how good he could have been...if you take that chance you should at least get something out of the guy you gave up that chance for.

also did you really just say that Herschel Walker(who was with us at the peak of his career) was not that good here? do you really think that minny would give up 4 players 3 1st 3 2nd a 3rd and a 6th for a player that "wasn't that good here"? you really need to catch up on not only the history of the game and great players but also the history of this organization

There's no way they're getting rid of Holland. He's the one backup who has played at a starting caliber level in this league.

There are too many question marks with all the other backup OLinemen to entertain dumping the one guy that you know exactly what you're getting when he enters a real game.

I think Preston should show that he can at least play Center or Guard for this team first.

its easy guys. Release the QB. If he makes it to PS, fine. If not snag somebody else's dev QB. That's what everybody else does to usQ!
