In a couple of months I will be residing outside of the United States.

I'll have high speed wireless in my new home.

I have family in Texas who have high speed internet and cable TV. There is one cable TV box in the Texas house, but the other TVs in the house get many channels (but not all) without a cable box. The internet router is located close to a cable TV hookup (but not the one that has the only cable box).

My plan is to purchase a DVR (one that does not require a monthly subscription fee) and a Slingbox -- not sure which model. The plan/hope is to set the DVR via the internet and to sling the programming back to me.

I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions, thoughts, or recommendations. I don't have any experience with DVR or Slingbox, but based on what I've read, it sounds like it'll work. Any suggestions regarding appropriate DVRs and / or Slingbox models would be greatly appreciated as well as any other comments that you might have.

Have no clue on slingbox.

But DVR's are the greatness.

Love mine and don't know if I could do without, of course I could if I had to but you know what I mean.

As far as which one to get. Only thing I can tell you is that charter (my cable provider) uses Scientific Atlanta since we have had it and we have went through a few (have two in the house). They seem to do well except for the occasional reboot.

If you have not dealt with one, once in a while, they will lock up and reboot itself.
