Dwayne Harris 3rd WR?

Ogletree is significantly faster than Harris (in shorts anyway). If I am remembering correctly, Ogletree was in the mid 4.3s at the combine, Harris was mid 4.5.

I think they are pretty similar players, though. Ogletree has shown (on occasion) that he can be a very shifty, significant RAC threat kind-of-guy, but he has never had a game as impressive as Harris tonight. There is something about Ogletree that makes me think he just doesn't "get it". I've been rooting for Harris since we drafted him, and would love for him to win the #3 spot.

I meant football speed. Maybe I'm overreacting. He is a rookie. But he knew where to be, when to turn, how to catch and where to run after the catch. I haven't seen Ogletree put together a play like that.

Ogletree looked good against 3rd team too.... But what has he done in a single game compared to Harris?

I take the guys who show up in games like Austin, Romo and Free...as opposed to the practice heros.

so then you have bryant, austin, harris, ogletree, and poots? what bout radway, manuel johnson and holley. poots is gonna take last spot from them?

It was sort of a joke, but I am rooting for the guy. Maybe he shows up on STs. That's where we'd need him. I'm not huge on MJ nor Holley, but I don't fancy myself as a WR guy. He just reminds me of Welker and Amendola, a little bit of Crayton. But with more upside than Crayton...

yeah im rooting for him too. one of my good friends got a full ride to SUU, they won their 1-AA region, and he said tyson poots was a big reason for that.

Holley hasn't shown squat to hold off Poots. I'm thinking Poots makes enough noise in camp to steal the 5th spot.
Agreed I think he has a real shot

We really should stop talking in terms of 1,2,3 and really find our slot guy that can mix it up, just like Miles and Dez.

This guy, Dwane Harris, is going to be a treat to watch for years to come. I rarely come out and risk my precious ITYS reputation this early, with such little evidence. :)

His center of gravity, his athletic ability, his ability to jump...a guy this young in the NFL having such a great game??? I know, I know. Don't drink the koolaid. Someone poisoned it. But I get a feeling that's not the case here.

And, again, we [hopefully] find another quality player in the later rounds.

With that said, I hope to see more competition, maybe even forcing us to cut the Beuhler.

(that kick off rule will hurt his value, I think)

I'm with you man. :beer2:

Just by the looks of him, it looks like he can compete. I don't expect him to have a completely quiet camp/preseason. And Romo came from a small school as well. I always like the low draft picks and UDFAs. Guys are fun to root for. And some of them are actually good.

Shoot, I'm glad Dallas looks in all the nooks and crannies. We're better off for it. I really am liking what I saw from our players, and coaches.

This has nothing to do with my opinion of Harris's ability to be the #3 wr, but I thought I'd share this recent expierence I had with Harris. I was flying Delta out of San Antonio Wed., but my plane was delayed. The agent then found a flight on American Airlines to Dallas. I noticed some Cowboys were going to fly on the same flight. I was jacked about that. The only guy I recognized was Brooking ,Spencer, and Coach Ryan. I then found out that none other than Dwayne Harris was sitting right next to me. It was a short flight and Harris slept most of the way until we touched down, but I got his autograph and wished him luck this year. He seems like a good kid, very polite young man. (he helped a guy with his luggage). From watching tonights game, Harris definitely has a chance to be a solid slot guy. Maybe not this year, but I can definitely see Harris being that Wes Welker type slot receiver in the near future.

Why not this year? This guy's mental capacity can and has learned play books as a QB in the past. This gives him the edge, being a former QB.

I agree with all you said, but I think he can contribute now.

Ok enough of this bull**** , lets end this thread. Radway and ogletree do not appear to have the upside of Harris. Plain and simple maybe ill be proven wrong. I wouldnt be surprised if Harris begins the year as our 4th talent wise. After that its up to Ogletree as to what happens from there.

An ECU Grad, I have watched Dwayne Harris play at this level for four years. He is a playmaker & will continue to do what you saw on the field last night. He is tough and not prima donna, will go over the middle & catch the ball, taking big hits.

Can't wait to watch him in the Silver & Blue.

Go Boys!!!

No, you don't know what you are talking about. I don't care what Babe says, watch the play again for yourself and you will see that Ogletree cut off the route from Holley.

I've seen this repeated a couple of times, and I don't think it's right. While Ogletree did round his route off a little bit, Holley took two steps straight up the field on his route. Now, I don't know the exact playcall, but most of the time, when you see that combination of routes, the route for the outside receiver is a slant. If Holley was supposed to run a slant, he ran the route very poorly.

Ogletree's job is to run his route underneath Holley's man. It's a pick play, basically. When Holley takes two steps straight toward his defender, he makes Ogletree's job that much more difficult.

I wasn't all that impressed with Ogletree tonight, but there's really no need to blame him for something that probably wasn't his fault.

Only Manuel Johnson has ever caught a pass in an NFL game and he's only caught one, so at that point I'm not even sure how much "game experience" really matters. If we get to the point where we are depending on our fifth wideout, we're screwed regardless of which of them it is. I'd personally rather play the odds that they'll never see the field anyway and go with the guy that I think has the best long-term potential to help us, not the guy who has sat on the bench the longest.

The 5th WR spot will be decided by special teams. Very likely it will be a key factor in the 4th spot as well. That's where Holley makes his move.

3rd year for Ogletree. He's accomplished absolutely zilch in his career at this point that garnered some meaningless hype in a feel good season where everyone was a hero. If he can't step up and decisively claim the 3rd WR role this year against rookie competition, the Cowboys need to spend the roster spot developing a 1st or 2nd year player. It's not like he was a highly productive player in college either. There's probably a reason why guys who supposedly run 4.3s and play at major programs go undrafted ... they're not very good football players.

Do you think he's gonna finish above ogletree? 5 receptions 127 yards and 2 TD's...i know its preseason but he's a rookie, so thats impressive. I really think this years draft could really pay dividends in the future.

Let's say he has really put the pressure on Ogletree to practice better and show up against the Chargers!

I loved how he played. He was noted as a good rout runner and good hands coming out of college and he lived up to that last night. Just keep on working and improving. As far as Olgetree I was very happy with what I saw in him as well as Radway. Still much work ahead of them but showed they have some good abilities

Fair enough.

lets not get too carried away, wasn't even covered on the 76 yard touchdown.
Olgetree is the number three, Harris competing for the four spot and an all out war for the number five spot

I've been saying since draft day that Harris may well be the steal of this draft. I can't understand how he slipped to the sixth round given his career at ECU...

I've watched this kid torch my college team (UCF) and C-USA for several years now. He was a late round steal and will be the best slot reciever we have had in a long time once he learns the system.

The nice part is Harris was that wide open on the 76 yard TD because he correctly recognized the blitz from the slot position and ran the correct hot route into the vacated area of the defense. The Broncos double blitzed both of their nickel linebackers on the weakside and blitzed their nickel slot on the strong, Harris ran into the void left by the linebackers. Rucker got a key block on the safety that sprung the play. The deep safety slipped over aggressively taking a bad angle to Harris, but by that point it was set up to be a big play anyway, the question was only how big. Great hustle by Radway running down field to get the final block to clear the way to the endzone.

That's what you get from someone who has played the slot position from the Air Raid offense in college ... someone who is well versed on reading defenses and adjusting routes on the fly to exploit soft spots (Wes Welker, Danny Amendola), because that's what that entire offense is predicated on. When you have a weapon like that in the slot, it's Tony Romo and the Offensive line's best friend. Defensive coordinators have to think twice before sending heavy blitzes because they know they can be exploited.
