Which is it? Will he accept any reasonable contract offered to him? Or is he singling out potential suitors that meet his criteria of winning teams?

Freeney would be a decent short-term pickup. He may be able to provide some life advice for Gregory during his stay here.

And the whole argument about cutting into the younger guys' playing time excuse doesn't work for me.

Freeney, even at his age, can do one thing. Rush the passer, something this team is pretty woeful at.

We took Elliott in the draft, according to many, because he was the most ready to perform from the start because we were in a win now mode. Freeney helps win now, whereas a guy like Tapper (who I love mind you) and Gregory are such unknowns at this point and unlikely to make a huge impact immediately.

So if Tapper gets some spot PT next year because Freeney is eating up some of his sacks, I can live with that. Freeney is exactly the type of guy this front office should be going after, especially since he's in the exact same pile they love to dig through............ the discount pile.

Freeney would be our best pass rusher for the first 4 games. Plus a good chance he could be our best pass rusher for the remainder of the season.
Randy Gregory was busted for smoking 4 times in 1 season after getting embarrassed at the combine. I wish him the best but no way I would count on him lasting this entire season drug free.

Demarcus Lawrence didn't even show up on the stat sheet last year until Hardy came in and put pressure on the QB....I don't know that Lawrence is going to be a force when he doesn't have the double team sliding the other way.

I don't know. He has his ring. He may just want to contribute to a team that will give him a chance for another. No harm in exploring.

Seems lately this team is too focused on not bringing in anyone over the age of 30. Which to me is not a good thing. If the guy can play and be an asset, who cares what age he is.

As far as a pass rusher, Freeney is probably the best of the bunch and if he comes for a vet minimum deal and maybe some sack incentives, then it's hard to find a good reason not to sign him. If he doesn't work out and we cut him he still isn't much of a hit at that rate. He had 8 sacks in 11 games last year. That would have led our team. He would only be here for one reason...pressure on passing downs. He wouldn't have to play the run at all. And since we have two guys that are going to be on the suspended list to start the season, he wouldn't even technically be bumping a "good" player off the roster. Lawrence and Gregory won't count against the 53 until they are activated if I recall correctly.

The argument against him is would we keep him or even have any interest if not for the 4 game suspensions of Lawrence and Gregory? The answer to that is probably no.

Right now we have a lot of bodies at both DT and DE. Do we want a progress stopper like Freeney who is on his last legs or do we want to roll with the young guys?

You don't sign guys for 4 games, the league doesn't work like that.

No it doesn't, but his pass rushing skills is needed for more than four games. There is certain situations that bringing in an old get can help. Considering this team's lack of pass rush, signing him sure is not going to hurt anything.

To be honest, I would have signed him already, along with Bjoern Werner. Nothing lost seeing what they have. Heck, the young guys would learn a lot from having a sacker like Freeney in the locker room.

Would love to sign him, at least as a stop gap until Lawrence/Gregory return. I realize he's 36 but hold on guys, he's still hungry and had 8 sacks last season in 11 games. That's the same total as Lawrence and twice as many as Crawford and they played 16 games. Salary last year was $970,000, counting $412,000 against the cap. Well worth it IMO. Opinions...

At 36 Freeney won't be stopping many gaps. He only lasted 2 seasons in San Diego and one season in AZ. He did have 8 sacks last season which surprised me but he's too old and can't imagine him having much left.
