The Philadelphia Daily News reports the Eagles are pushing L.J. Smith to play through his groin pain despite Smith's concerns about the risks.

Smith, who considers himself a "game-time decision" despite being listed as probable, reportedly has pain extending up through his hip area. Smith remains a decent play against the Packers, but is unlikely to be 100 percent.

Agreed. Must be a new trend?

ITs STUPID to do this early in the season. Let them rest and heal up; its not like the playoffs are next week.

Couldn't have happened at a worse time for LJ Smith. This is his contract year and it looks like the Eagles think they already have his replacement (Celek).

Good point.

As much as I like L.J., he has to get healthy. Celek has looked impressive throughout the preseason and IMO is just as good as L.J.

He will reinjure it if he comes back to soon.

A tempting thought that the Eagles would force an injured player to perform at a percentage rate that is less than their effective potential. I'm not buying that hype! Quite frankly I believe that Eagle Trainers have qualified staff that would not allow such irresponsibility. Also, this game is not that crucial that would warrant such drastic action.

Bottom line ...someone is just trying to sell newspapers.

Trust me ...I'm capable of saying a lot more. But I decided to just stick with my perspective. Would you not do the same if the situation were reversed?

No. If a player on my team is hurt and thinks he is a game time decision the team should list him ATLEAST questionable. Im sure his teammates are looking at "probrable" thinking of course hes going to play. Thats alot of pressure on a football player and is in someways indirectly forcing his hand to play. And if he gets hurt "we need to get rid of L.J. hes always hurt". Kinda how Cowboy fans quickly turned on Terry Glenn the past few days. If a player says he is a game time decision thats what he is. The doctors, training staff, coaches dont know L.J.s body as well as he does. Try to look at it from the players perspective and not always as the loyal fan.

Huh?!? That's exactly what the Eagles did ...

"Starting tight end L.J. Smith was downgraded to questionable following the team's Saturday morning walk-thru. Smith has been battling a groin injury which sidelined him for much of training camp and all four preseason games."

If Smith is unable to play, the team would look to veteran Matt Schobel to step in. Rookie tight end Brent Celek will also see action, according to head coach Andy Reid.

^thats what i saw. My bad. But one other thing. I would'nt say this isnt a very big game for the eagles. Yall cant affort losing to a team like the packers. Yall are going to need all the wins you can to fend off them boys!

I was wondering about how they would list his status. PFT.com mentioned something about probable players having to play under league rules.

'Questionable' probably gives the team the option whether or not he plays.

Agreed.

I wouldn't want to have to start the season playing at Green Bay.

They were a 'hot' team down the stretch last season and have a very good home-field advantage. With their rabid fanbase, opening day in Green Bay is a tough spot to play.

You hit the nail on the head.
They dont take care of their own. Young or old. They dont, they wont PAY.

Only one they ever took care of was McNabb.

Some of you guys aren't even comical anymore. You take an injured Eagle player and accuse Eagle Management of rushing him back onto the grid iron. When you finally realize that what you've read isn't always accurate, you spin the situation into an Eagles GM dollars and cents issue.

The on;y thing that shuld be oOf paramount importance to you right now Is not whether or not an Eagles fan considers the Eagles versus Packers game Important ...it should be focused on what the Giants are capable of doing to the Cowboys.

The Eagles will take care of their business - Andy Reid, Jim Johnson and Marty will make sUre of that! Not so certain about Wade Phillips.
