Ezekiel Elliott - RB - Player
Eagles EVP of football operations Howie Roseman said the most successful backs in the league tend to be "high picks."

"There’s this narrative that you can get running backs in the fifth, sixth, seventh round and undrafted free agency," Roseman said. "But when you look back at the last ten years of guys that are really in the top ten in rushing, those guys are high picks." Roseman added a three-down back can be a "unique weapon," a sentiment which is especially true in new coach Doug Pederson's offense. Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott is the best bet to become the "unique weapon" Roseman appear to have in mind, and Philadelphia is in a great spot to land him with the No. 8 overall pick

I was just going to share this:)...we will rue the day if the iggles get this guy. Write it down in stone. We think facing Moss a handful of times was bad this would be 10 times that.

Ezekiel is going to be a baller, but the GM of the Eagles is kinda wrong on this.. saying that I don't want him to be an Eagle or a Giant... im sure they feel the same way about us getting him.

They can have him. I feel no different about it than I did when they signed Murray. I prefer it to them getting an impact player at a more significant position.

He will be a handful to deal with wherever he goes.

But my thinking is this. Three days after he passes away he will be wherever you left him.

He's exaggerating when he says people claim you can get a starting TB in the 5-7th rounds. No one has really said that. Most say you don't necessarily have to use a high first round pick to get a good TB, they can be found in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Plus, Roseman is a master manipulator.......... the fact he's spewing this about Elliott probably means they have no interest in taking him at 8 and might be actively trying to shop that pick since they don't have a 2nd round pick this year.

In Dallas, Elliott will be a special special player. Elite player very much worth considering at pick 4.

As I just wrote in the Strum article post, HOF RB's of the modern era are generally 1st round guys (Thurman Thomas and Curtis Martin were 2nd and 3rd rounders respectively only because they were hurt in college). An elite back is generally not had after round 1. There are exceptions but the numbers say you get great backs on round 1.

Elliott should be in the mix for top 5 and top 10. If a QB is deemed a franchise guy you take him over any other position. But if not, take the elite guy no matter position every time.

The last 10 years is a ridiculous timeframe to look at. Thankfully he runs the Eagles.

You can't compare how teams drafted when the salary system was flawed to an extent that the top 5 picks regardless of position instantly became one of the top 5 highest players at their position, some times the highest paid player regardless of position.

The real value at RB is in the top of the 2nd round.

I agree with him on the value of 3-down backs and Elliott, but I was interested to see if what he said was true. The Eagles GM might have a different definition of high pick. If he means top two rounds, he's accurate. If he means early first round, not so much (and a couple -- McFadden and Lynch -- are on their 2nd team).

2015 - 4 out of top 10 were top 15 in RD1 ; 6 out of top 10 were RD1 or 2
2014 - 1 out of top 10 were top 15 in RD1 ; 5 out of top 10 were RD1 or 2
2013 - 3 out of top 10 were top 15 in RD1 ; 6 out of top 10 were RD1 or 2
2012 - 3 out of top 10 were top 15 in RD1 ; 6 out of top 10 were RD1 or 2
2011 - 3 out of top 10 were top 15 in RD1 ; 7 out of top 10 were RD1 or 2

So about 28% of the top 10 rushers came from the top half of RD1 and 60% by the end of RD2.

But he's accurate in saying that teams cannot just find guys later on with ease. Guys from the 3rd round or later are not consistent performers. They tend to have 1-2 good years and then fade. Finding a consistently productive RB after RD 2 is unlikely. Last 10 years it's been only Jamaal Charles and Frank Gore, with Arian Foster being more in the feast or famine category.

But that all said, Elliott ticks all the boxes for me as a RB. Matchup nightmare for defenses. The only question I have about him is the rumors of drug party stuff.

Yet they give a former mid round pick RB franchise money then cut him in a year.
