Is this guy worth his weight ...

Dallas middle linebacker Ryan Fowler is in Philadelphia to meet with Eagles officials at the NovaCare Complex on Friday.

The 6-3, 250-pound restricted free agent was originally signed by the Cowboys as a rookie free agent out of Duke in 2004. A reserve middle linebacker and contributor on special teams, Fowler had 24 tackles last season. Behind inside linebackers Bradie James and Akin Ayodele, Fowler could be looking for an opportunity where he could have a chance to start down the road.

As a restricted free agent, Fowler was tendered the lowest-level amount by the Cowboys. That means Dallas has seven days to match any offer Fowler signs, but if the Cowboys refuse then they will not receive any compensation.

Very Good Special team player, but I don't think he's a starter, he's too slow, but he's nice depth.

As a restricted free agent, Fowler was tendered the lowest-level amount by the Cowboys. That means Dallas has seven days to match any offer Fowler signs, but if the Cowboys refuse then they will not receive any compensation.

In his three-year career, Fowler has 40 career tackles in 32 games. After Fowler signed with the Cowboys, he was released a month later after he injured his back during off-season workouts and he subsequently failed a physical. He re-signed with the Cowboys during training camp later in 2004. After he didn't make the final 53-man roster, he was signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 15, 2004 and played in his first NFL game on Oct. 26.

At Duke, Fowler was a two-time captain and was the second player in Blue Devil history to lead the team in tackles three straight seasons. He earned second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors after notching 136 tackles his senior season. He finished second in school history in tackles for loss (47.5), third in total tackles (495) and sixth in sacks (12.5).

He played quarterback, running back and linebacker for Seminole High School in Redington Shores, Florida and his team reached the state playoffs his senior year.

Fowler is familiar with Philadelphia, having participated in the NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program at Penn's Wharton School last off-season.
