A"futures" contract?

I'm not an expert but that's a new one on me...

A futures contract is when a team signs a player who has been on a practice squad (or walking the street) at the end of the regular season. It is a way to secure the rights of a free agent who is not on an NFL active roster at the conclusion of the season. At least that is how I understand it.

You see it happen every year. We just did it with Travis Wilson and Ryan Gibbons.

So unless the Eagles signed him to their active playoff roster and he decided to just sign a futures contract with them, it says a lot, both about what we think of him and he thinks of the Cowboys.
