I just hate that rule. The NFL is basically punishing a football player for making that extra effort to score a touchdown.

I don't like it either because the receiver clearly has possession on these plays but they make them hold onto the ball through the contact of the ground if they're going to the ground. They do it because on some plays you can't clearly tell when possession is established so they require the receiver to complete a process to remove all doubt that it was a completed catch.
