If you read Ree-dik-u-liss from a couple of days ago, you already know I am a fan of Dak Prescott. The kid truly is hard to not love. From the gracious manner in which he has shouldered all of the recent praise to the now infamous pointing to his mother in heaven following every touchdown he is involved in, you couldn’t have written a better narrative than what is unfolding before our collective eyes and ears…the fact that he can play also helps, but we Cowboys fans would embrace him regardless so long as he has that star on the side of his helmet, right? No? Oh.
Should the Dak magic endure against Seattle, tonight very well could be the last night we see Dak for a very long time…oh Dak we hardly knew thee! That is, unless disaster strikes and an injury to Romo necessitates Dak stepping in. Now, for many of you, this would be music to your ears; two games have been enough for many to suggest that not only is Dak starter material but he is also already better than Romo. If this is you, you need to calm down…bring it down notch…Exon Valdez is laughing at the amount of anointing oil you are spilling right now.
Dak has been very impressive; dazzling even. But there is still so much more to learn….just ask Romo. While on the job training can bring a prospect along faster, it can also be a hindrance to their development. Mind you, I’m not speaking in certainties; Dak very well could be a whole other breed of player who just simply gets it from the word jump. Nevertheless, I want him on the sideline with clipboard in hand listening in on the plays called and watching as Romo calls adjustments to the offense in response to what the opposing defense shows. I then want Dak to be the first person to greet Romo when he returns to the sideline to discuss the plays that were called and more importantly the adjustments Romo made. This can only help Dak in the long run…and it certainly won’t hurt is development.
Thoughts?
