Name: Shane Carden
Position: QB
College: East Carolina
Year: Senior
Height: 6’2
Weight: 221
Unofficial 40-yard dash: 4.82
Projected Round in NFL Draft: 3-4

Strengths

- Plays great under pressure
- Throws crisp, accurate passes on the run
- Great at getting rid of the ball under duress
- Improvises well
- Escapes pressure and makes something out of nothing
- Exceptional in the red zone both as a passer and runner
- Throws and accurate long-ball
- Very mobile in the pocket
- Throws a great deep opposite sideline throw, even under pressure
- Throws well behind the line of scrimmage

Summary

While Carden is an excellent prospect and is quite the playmaker, there is sure to be a lot of questions surrounding him come draft day. His awkward release and less than ideal situation at ECU will have GMs second guessing. QBs that face high-level competition in an NFL style offense have a huge leg up. Nonetheless, his talent is undeniable and it would not be shocking if a team reached for him and took a shot on his upside. How he finishes out the season is sure to have a major impact on his draft stock.

Draft Range: Third-Fourth round with upside

I'd take him in the 4th

Shane Carden . As a quarterback for East Carolina, he doesn't get the pub of the Power 5. But this guy has thrown for almost 10,000 yards in his career and 74 touchdowns (including over 2,500 yards already this season). He threw for 427 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions this September in an upset at Virginia Tech.

Carden (6-2, 221), an overlooked winner out of Texas who turned into ECU's all-time leading passer, is projected to go in the fourth round. He may be a steal...for somebody out there.

watching this video:

He kinda reminds me of a young shorter version of Philip rivers.. looks to be able to make all the throws from that video, good deep ball placement... I did notice there offense is very good and getting receivers open in holes so i think that has a lot to do with the yards and completions he's had in that system. over all i'd take a stab at him in the 2nd or 3rd after that he's going to be gone for sure.

Intrigued but that Temple game was ugly.

Driving raid and 5 fumbles by the backs and WRs.
No picks though.

I think he goes in the 4th - 6th rd.
His release is is a bit awkward looking.

Played HS ball in Katy, Texas.

BTW, the better pro prospect may end up being James Hardy...who will leave ECU as the all-time leading receiver in NCAA history.

The kid has some "Romo-esque" qualities to him, including being about the same size.

Maybe a 3rd round consideration.

That release is funky. Big time wind up that somes below the waist. Reminds me of Byron Leftwhich in college. I think the Cowboys go another year to draft a QB (and they should).

Leftwich did have a slow, long windup...no doubt.
This kid is way faster than Byron. Not remotely close.
But come draft dissection time, you are correct that his delivery is going to get critiqued.

You're right. No where close to be as slow as Leftwich.
