Here are a look at the possibilities ranked in order of how are three wise men see them.

• Teddy Bridgewater, 6-foot-2, 214 pounds, University of Louisville

“He’s not elite, but he’s good. He’s got a good arm, and he’s a good leader,” the AFC executive said.

“I have him at the top,” the NFC personnel man said. “He’s dependable; he’s consistent; he’s proven he can make plays. He’s pretty much a safe pick.

“He’s the most ready to come in and play right now,” the NFC scout said.

• Johnny Manziel, 5-11½, 210, Texas A&M

“I love him; I really do,” the NFC personnel man said. “But can you hand him the keys to the franchise? Can you put the franchise in his hands? I’d be a little scared of that.”

“Hit or miss? What are they talking about? He’s a better passer and has a better arm than the guy who just won the Super Bowl,” the AFC executive said. “Does he have a gun? No. But his arm is good enough,”

“I don’t know,” the NFC scout said. “He has all the glitz and glamour. But if you take him, you better take Mike Evans, because all he did was throw the ball up there, and Evans went up and got it. He’s very risky.”

• Jimmy Garoppolo, 6-2, 226, Eastern Illinois

“Same school as Tony Romo,” the AFC executive said. “He’s got great feet and a quick release. He doesn’t have a great arm, but he’s very accurate.”

Count me as one who thinks there are no clear cut franchise QBs this year.
The class is pretty good though.

The franchise players at the top of the draft are at the DE and OT position.

Bold prediction ~ Bridgewater and/or Manziel will be available at 16.

1. Houston is looking for a trade (they are targeting Bortles in a trade down or will draft Clowney with the 1st pick).
2. Oakland traded for Schaub.
3. Jacksonville resigned Henne.
4. Minnesota resigned Cassel.
5. Cleveland has a private workout for Carr & with 2 1st round picks, can can select Carr with the 26th pick.

For the above teams in their mind, there is not much of a drop off from a Bortles, Bridegwater, and Manziel to a Carr, Garoppolo, McCarron, and Mettenberger.
They can target a very skilled OL, WR, or DL in the first round and pick up a QB in the early 2nd.

The quandary for Jerry & Co., however at the 16th selection ~ a young 1st round talent QB like Bridegwater and/or Manziel is available at 16, and with Romo's health condition and age, it might be the time to draft for the future.

Henne and Cassell are insurance, and in no way prevent their teams from taking a QB

Someone could drop though,yes.

I hope at least four QBs are taken before #16. We don't need need a first round QB this years so I could care less if one drops. For every QB selected before 16 makes it more probable we have a DT or OL dropping to us.

There is no way to know who is a franchise player until they peform at that level. Look at Arod, Romo, Brady, Wilson.. Guys that played pretty good in school and made the best out the pros.

The "throw the ball up there" guy who's being quoted, I'm guessing, is a Giants scout, as he's been quoted at NJ.com.

So this is before everyone's proday. I guarantee Bridgewaters poor showing along with Manziels, Bortles, and Carr's good showing has changed the landscape somewhat.

a single pro day of throwing the ball around will change the landscape a total of zero. its quite ridiculous actually. 3 years of solid work and one day of toying around is going to change what they already accomplished? hardly.

If one of the major QBs is available at 16 ... you have to pick them. I just dont think there will be one there. If im the texans i probably go with Clowney and then go QB in round 2.

The Texans should pass on a QB but the Cowboys must pick one if available? I don't understand that logic.

I think O'Brien believes he is QB maker and he doesnt need to spend a first rounder on not a sure thing franchise QB with the next Lawrence Taylor sitting there to be picked. If I'm O'Brien i bet on my ability to pick a QB later in the draft or next year.

The more I look at this draft, the more I come back to Carr and Murray. I like their value, as opposed to some of the other's and I think they are better fits for the Cowboys at this stage.

Is that why many people who formerly had Bridgewater 1 have flipped to Manziel then? I'm not good with either of them in the first but I have seen analyst like Mayock (who many respect) change their opinion, so there is slightly more than 0 points.

all i can say is that is foolish on their part.

If I have a perfect driving record for 3 years and have a small accident at a redlight, that doesnt mean all the sudden that i cant drive.

Peyton manning has multiple games under 150 passing yards...does that mean he cant QB?

Using 1 sample out of 75 samples to completely change the conclusion is foolish. Statistics will tell you that 1 sample is an outlier and should be disregarded.
