Eagles | Minor Talks with E. George
Mon, 18 Jul 2005 20:38:06 -0700

Adam Schefter, of NFL.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have had minor talks with free agent RB Eddie George (Cowboys), but they have not stepped forward with an offer to bring George to camp.

Why?

1) George was hardly used by the Cowbozoys in 2004 -- he remained healthy and is only 32; heck, Levens was 34 and we still got some mileage from him last year.

2) George was Born and raised in Philadelphia and probably would love to retire there.

Sure, it could happen! But do the Eagles really need another HB? Well, if Buckhaulter should not remain healthy, George could fill-in. George could probably be a valuable asset to the Eagles defense, (yes defense), even if he is only a side-lines consultant.

We'll see if George shows up for Eagles training camp!

and you're excited about this?

You're in the wrong place to seek praise about Eddie George.

Hey, I think it's a great move. George is the kind of back that if you need two yards for a 1st, he'll give you 2 yards. If you need 10 yards for a 1st, he'll give you 2 yards.

Sign him up.

Isn't Buckhalter healthy again? I guess you could ask for how long though. I think they could use a between the tackles type runner, but figured they'd use Buck.

I strongly recommend Eddie George to the Eagles.

He is a real warrior and will help your team. Wink-wink.

No one said he was going to be a starter; like in Dallas.

Starter or backup, doesn't make a difference... he won't average 3.5 yards on whatever carries the Iggles might be foolish enough to give him... and of course, he offers nothing as a receiver...

Signing him would be an absolute waste of a roster spot... the guy wsa once decent, but that was then, this is now...

Not that you're not right to be concerned about Buckhalter's ability to stay on the field... his next season of 150 carries will be his first, and this is his fifth in the NFL...

I'd also say this does not speak well of the first impression Ryan Moats has made... ditto Dorsey Levens... as far as I'm concerned, both of them are superior options to Eddie George to be the backup to Brian Westbrook...

Qd, don't jump to so many conclusions all at once! I'm not excited, I'm merely
quoting Adam Schefter, of NFL.com. I could not care either way -- I've got enough excitement wondering whether T.O. will show up! Me, excited about
Eddie George -- naw, not yet anyway. But don't let his performance in Dallas fool you. Talk to the Commanders about Jeremiah Trotter!

You're in the wrong place to seek praise about Eddie George.

Qb, there you go again -- you stop that! Where did get any indication that Eddie George deserves praise? But he could have enough left to come bace and bite you ...and before you even process the thought -- No, that's not a threat!

Relax, it's only NFL chatter ...so far anyway!

Super report... I know Filly has lots of cap room... Go for it... Would be a smash signing... Don't you wish you'd have pulled the trigger when Marcellus Wiley was available... The green birds missed out on that one, but you can make it up by signing Eddie...

ROTFLMAO... his performance in Dallas was just about a carbon copy of his performance the previous 3 years, the lone exception being the number of carries he was fed... over that time, he had 970 carries, for 3145 yards... that works out to a robust 3.2 yards per carry... which means Eddie had a slightly HIGHER YPC when he played for the Boys...

And as far as his being the starter in Dallas, that lasted until Julius Jones got his broken shoulder healed... if Julius hadn't gotten hurt, Eddie would have been on the bench much, much sooner... so are you REALLY confident that he could step in for Brian Westbrook if the latter got hurt, and get the job done??

Well, I wouldn't be... if Eddie George was your primary backup to Westbrook, your running game would disappear if Brian got hurt... but hey, if you guys want him, I wouldn't look for Jerry to get involved in a bidding war for him... :D

Faceous response:

Now that's all relative ACB. You see, if George only gets two yards per carry, and it's only the 1st or 2nd down, with 10-yards remaining to move the chains; Westbrook or Buckhaulter could probably take it the rest of the way to pay dirt!

Realistic response: I get you point. Everyone realizes that George doesn't come with great credentials, and I'm sure your Cowboys would probably not give him a strong referral letter. But George under a different coach may prove you wrong.

But this may all be for nothing -- I heard his agent was talking with several teams.

I think this is a great move for the Eagles.

Why rotate bad backs like Buckhalter and Moats in there with Westbrook when you can get a good one in Eddie George.

I say go for the gusto, Philadelphia!

NOT BYE GEORGE -- NOT YET

Now that Tennessee has traded for Travis Henry, it has filled a spot on its roster that could have gone to running back Eddie George. But even though he will turn 32 in September, George has no plans to retire, none at all.

George is content sitting and waiting for a team to come calling. His agent has had some minor talks with Jacksonville, Minnesota and Philadelphia. But to date, no team has stepped forward with an offer to bring George to camp.

In the interim, George will continue overseeing his Columbus-based landscape architecture firm, "The Edge Group," while preparing for the September opening of his restaurant, "Eddie's Grill 27," not far from Ohio State, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1995. And even if no team signs him this season, George would continue working out and preparing to play next season.

I saw Eddie on NFLnetwork over the weekend showing off his DJ skills with Biz Markie.

My advice?

Stick to landscape architecture.
