Eisen - How can the Cowboys ultimately win the Micah Parsons trade?

Anybody would have been fired with that defense .
Yes the defense he coached to be just that bad.
He got fired from Chicago because he was a bad coach and look how much better they did with a new coach.

He was a very lazy hire that led us to one of the worst if not the worst defense in cowboy history.

Notice we did our due diligence this year so as to try and not to make the same mistake

Perhaps it's the gaping hole we now have at Edge that trading Parsons creates? Good thing it's easy to find a war daddy in the draft. Oh ....
I can see your point there but of course we weren't counting on losing Marshawn kneeland.

I have to believe that for our team especially it is much more difficult to get an elite defensive tackle we just never seem to hit on that and now we have one.
Along with Kenny Clark who is another very good defensive tackle

We have been weak in this area for so long I believe it's one of the biggest things that has cost us in the playoffs.

After careful analysis of Micah Parsons he is purely a guy who relies on speed.
If he loses a step his game is very compromised
He is not a physical player he is not a run stopper in any way shape or form.
He is not a leader in the locker room.
He has been chastised by his teammates and it didn't really seem like anyone was upset that he was traded.
He is not a game wrecker in big moments of playoff games with only one sack against 45-year-old Tom Brady in garbage time.

And the guy who commands a salary that is truly a financial burden for what he brings to the table
Which is mostly sacks in perfect Storm types of games where we have a big lead and in garbage time.
We can draft someone with the 20th pick that will improve our defense and on a rookie contract allow us to spend money on free agents that will also improve our defense.

No telling how he recovers from this injury but for once we got rid of a player maybe a year early rather than a year too late.

He did well in Indy and why he got the job in Chi.

I’m not saying his scheme fit here as there were some issues but without talent it’s tough to fully measure.
I agree but the good ones can at least do better than the worst. Flores doesn’t have much talent.

Coaching is going to continue to be an issue as Jethro and the Cowboys don’t normally pursue or attract the more proven prospects. If we are depending on coaching to save us we are in trouble.

Honestly we traded one hole for another. Yes, we have more money but what are we going to do with it? Pickens takes a portion unless you trade him but if we don't have someone who can bring it from the edge, the likes of Darnold, Purdy, Stafford and now even Caleb Williams will pick us apart in the NFC. Hurts is trending down and who knows about Daniels. But to play with the big boys you have to harass the QB. How far are we from a Seattle-type defense if we aren't going to have a premier pass rusher leading the charge? Lots of IFs unanswered to claim being ahead in a trade that was always about what we could do in the future with it.

Honestly if the Cowboys nail their pick at 20 I’d call it a win. The trade with the Jets is looking more precarious. We gave them a top 45 pick and our top 1st rounder next year for a guy that literally didn’t help us win. The Micah trade would look way better if we’d held the picks.

I agree we need some pass rush but in my opinion Micah was a way over hyped player after his rookie year.
You need a pass rusher that can compete against good teams in big moments .
You need a game wrecker that steps up in playoff games.

Micah was a guy who built a reputation by beating up on bad teams that we had a lead over in garbage time.

He disappeared in big games with teams that could run.
His one trick pony show was exposed.

We need the complete package in a pass rusher not just someone that can pray on the week he also has to be able to dominate the strong

Who are you finding out there that's a "complete package" you speak of? You talk about Micah not showing up in big games but look at these top pass rushers in the playoffs:

TJ Watt - 1 sack in 5 games
Parsons - 1 sack in 4 games
Myles Garrett - 1 sack in 3 games
Maxx Crosby - 1 sack in 1 game
Hendrickson - 4.5 sacks in 12 games
Nick Bosa - 10 sacks in 12 games

If a big game player is this rare, how are we going to have one fall into our laps in the draft unless we pay a steep price via trade (Crosby) or FA (Hendrickson) who themselves haven't been gamers in the playoffs?

It's difficult to find the complete package but what you are smart not to do is pay some guy a king's Ransom as if he was the complete package when he is not.
When in all honesty not only is he not the complete package but he is a liability against the run.

Not to mention somewhat of a negative force in your locker room.
You do your best in the draft get talent on a rookie deal and try and help your defense through free agency.
Foolish to pay one guy that much if he can't step up in big moments and be a game changer

Beyond that when you see a guy wear down at the end of every season and you know his whole game revolves around speed father time is undefeated.

Anybody who has. Watched enough football could see that it was a matter of time before Micah playing undersized at his position was on borrowed time and aging in dog years.

As I said before better to get rid of them a year early then wait till it's too late and he's worth nothing.
Those ACL injuries can take a couple years before a player comes back to full speed if he is able to come back at all.

Orrrrrr, Micah doesn’t come back from injury quite the same or starts having frequent injury issues which won’t surprise me a bit for a quick twitch undersized guy hammering 300+ lb OL play after play….all while eating a massive chunk of GBs cap space and not ours…and being a diva…..thats a win for us IMO.
And as long as the pick is a decent player who’s not Mazi or taco….Q was a huge get plus not paying Micah 47m to disappear in the playoffs…
