The Jaguars and Bills are doing American football battle in London on Sunday morning. And for the first time, the entire world is getting a taste of EJ Manuel. The flavor is probably similar to stargazy pie.

Manuel has settled down a bit heading into halftime, leading the Bills to a pair of scoring drives and tightening up the game 27-13 at the break.

But before those drives? Wooooooof. Manuel was a disaster, throwing a pair of picks and fumbling once.

Manuel's fumble was returned by Chris Clemons for a touchdown after he completely missed Aaron Colvin coming ino a blitz.

There was a debate between Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon about switching to backup Josh Johnson, but Rex Ryan didn't flinch. He may have been frozen in anger but it's most likely Johnson doesn't have enough time in the Buffalo offense. WithTyrod Taylor hurt, there wasn't much the Bills could do, having traded Matt Cassel to the Cowboys after Tony Romo went down. Whoops.

Reports indicated that the coaches wanted to keep Cassel but the the GM traded him anyway.

This is a team that switch one of the best DLs in the NFL from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Who knows why they do what they do.

Why did they even draft Manuel with a mid 1st round pick? I thought it was obvious that he was a project.

Sort of like a GM who allows a featured back and rushing leader to walk, scuttling the running attack of a team heralded as one of the top front runners for a SB bid.

I thought that was an obvious gaff.

Don't know about QB situation. But I do know that the NFL should be embarrassed. Yahoo should be embarrassed. And Europe should tell Roger and the NFL that they don't want the NFL over there. What an ugly performance by everyone involved. The entire internet only game was displayed horribly. I've seen better productions on youtube.

The Cowboys played the odds just like gamblers play the odds. It was a high probability that Murray would not live up to a big contract. Historical stats are not in his favor. The history of RBs that had over 370 carries in a season is not good the following season and most never recovered to have another quality season. Add to that he study of RBs with regards to age that shows they start to decline at age 27 which is Murray's age. If that's not enough, many experts that reviewed the Cowboys 2014 season thought that Murray just gained all of those yards because of the super high number of carries and and a terrific OLine. not because he was above average in terms of skill.

Personally, I prefer that the Cowboys play the odds (i.e. the Money Ball type mentality) over the many years that they just made seat of their pants decisions based on Jerry's whims. A few years ago Jerry would have just paid Murray 100M and Dez 200M.

But in defense (which is not often), that RB would have cost $8 mil this year.

Historical stats said that no running back who won the rushing title for a season would lead his team to the Super Bowl. You argued against this point all off season.

So by your theory, they should have allowed Romo to walk and play money ball.

By the way, Emmitt did it three times with the rushing title and SB. Stats are dry numbers that have no allegiance to heart, leadership, and desire. But we sure saw Jerry do what he seems to have done in the past. Or his son is the nut falling far from the tree in thinking he knew netter and allowed a play maker to walk.

Bills GM Doug Whaley is desperately needs EJ to find some sort of success, even if a backup. He wasn't going to cut his 1st round pick for Matt Cassel. He should have just ate it and lived with it and EJ's performance today is exactly why he should have ate it. EJ couldn't beat out Ponder at FSU. I really wonder if Doug thought about that during draft day or not.

I watched that Bills game today. I hope Cassel does great today so Bills fans will be in even further misery and full blown finger pointing mode by Monday morning because I heard a lot of super bowl / better D than Seattle chirping about 8 weeks ago.

How does Romo figure into this? He has had terrific stats and QB ratings.

The issue with Murray is that the stats just supported the decision and were in line with what experts said based on game film which was that he was an average RB at best. The stats also just added to the fact that he only had 1 season where he played 16 games and that was his contract season.

Many NFL teams lose their mind when drafting QB. Hopefully the Cowboys can find a way not to be one of those.
