And I do see Safety as a gaping hole along with CB. Disagree? Fine, then we'll disagree, but you can't expect a secondary to get better with only mediocre/below average players back there. Every aspect of the defense needs to improve, from the defensive line on back. The Sensy-Elam connection does not provide serious impact; the Cowboys need a true playmaker at one of the Safety spots. If the best player on the board happens to be a Safety when Dallas picks, then I say take him.

Go review the top three guys at either SS or FS in the upcoming draft...

There aren't any that are considered good vs the pass. All of them are stronger vs the run except for the possibility of Robert Lester from Alabama who's 6-2, 210lbs, but runs in the 4.55 range, which isn't optimum and with that long frame probably isn't going to be quick enough to cover wide receivers man-to-man like Darren Woodson could.

Your perception of the safety position on this team is just plain wrong.

Again, it's not about having Ed Reed at both safety spots. It's about having guys that are steady and make positive plays and very few negative ones. Aside from getting beat for a TD catch against the Vikings in the preseason, Elam and Sensabaugh have been consistently solid all year.

We have struggled in the pass rush outside of DeMarcus Ware, and those struggles have put an additional strain on the CBs to cover WRs. Remember, CBs are not psychic - they're trying to react at 4.3-4.4 speeds to WRs running all over the place, all the while trying to keep an eye on the backfield for a RB in the flats, a screen pass, or a scrambling QB.

If you can consistently push the pocket and get to the QB, CBs miraculously start looking a lot better. Our DBs were looking like locks for the Pro Bowl earlier when we were wreaking havoc in the backfield. Rob Ryan's defense got neutralized against Arizona, somehow, and hasn't figured it out since.

Gotta rush the QB and make him make bad throws.

I love this guy... But I really wanted Huff, or the kid out in San Diego. We not better Corner play and with that we need better D line play! That would help out our safety play for sure. Not crazy about the Sensabaugh signing for 5 years but it is what it is... Better Corners and D line play is really what we need!

That's not true.

In 2010, the Cowboys did have a serious interest in Nate Allen as an early round draft pick.

And they have drafted safeties...

2009 Michael Hamlin, Steven Hodge and Deangelo Smith was viewed as a safety prospect.

In 2010 they draft AOA in the fourth round as a safety prospect.

So it's not like they haven't tried.

My point is that the Cowboys have not drafted a legitimate safety or gone after a top safety in free agency. Instead we go with JAGs year after year and in the offseason we justify this by saying that there wasn't a safety worth going after and then complain when the Cowboys get burnt year after year.

I WAS excited over anyone who actually played safety in the NFL instead of Ball, the converted 4th string CB.

However, Elam did absolutely nothing for us this season except help get us lined up as we learned the new defense.

I can't remember a big tackle or interception or hit or fumble caused or recovered...the guy made no big plays.

This offseason should be about a playmaker at safety, getting a younger run stuffer at ILB, drafting another starter at CB and signing at least one more CB in free agency for depth.

And definitely upgrade the DL.

That's a lot to accomplish in one offseason, but even getting some of it done will make us a better team.

I don't even think he has one pass defense this year.

Look at the FA safeties from last year and got money this year and guess what? Not many of them were worth the money. There are no real good FS in the draft this year just like last year. We need a guy that can come in and play NOW. Well there really ain't any.

If a 26 year old FS can lead the league in INTs, I'd say he might be worth some money. Meanwhile, another free agent from last year, Dashon Goldson, is 2nd in the league in INTs. So yes, there are a few that could have been had in free agency.

Looking at stats in a vacuum is the absolute worst way to evaluate talent.

The tackles a safety has to make are very different and the instincts part of the job is so different that you can't project a corner there. Some can do it but most cannot.

That plus two new CBs - one to replace TNew and one to take Walker's place. One of them needs to start next year. This is a deep CB draft so I hope we take two early (first four rounds).

It doesn't matter who we get players wise. Once they get coached by Campo, they'll start sucking.

I was hoping we get Dennis Thurman as our DB coach this year.
