Eli & Peyton Manning winning with young receivers

Not to put Romo in the category of Peyton - but using the comparison of each starting the year with young and unproven receivers. Peyton & Eli have not dropped off because of the young guys. Both have lost there star receiver from last year. I would love to see how Hurd & Austin would perform with Eli & Peyton.

Both clubs have real, competent GMs who don't hog the media spotlight, so this really isn't a fair comparison.

Anthony Gonzalez -- 1st rounder

Mario Manningham -- 3rd rounder

Steve Smith -- 2nd rounder

Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie aren't exactly 1st day picks, but they were taken in the 6th and 4th rounds; respectively

Peyton Manning is better than Romo or Eli. Period. So I won't even comment on that.

BUT, I will compare Romo and Eli. I think our WRs would be fine in the Giants offense and Romo would be fine in the Giants offense as well. Eli would struggle here worse than Romo.

The Giants rely on the run. They use the run to open up the pass. Jacobs isn't half as good as he was last year, but teams stack 8 in the box to stop him which opens up alot for the passing game.

Teams expect us to pass so they stay back with their secondary and they blitz alot with their front 7.

If we would stick to the run, alot opens up in the passing game.

well, first and foremost both Peyton and Eli are better quarterbacks than Romo.

Second, Peyton has Reggie Wayne who is a big time wr. Austin Collie was a 4th round selection, Pierre Garcon a 6th rounder. Also of note, they drafted Anthony Gonzalez in the 1st although he is currently injured.

Eli has Manningham (3rd round) and Steve Smith (2nd round). Hakeem Nicks I think was 1st rounder.

Other than Roy Williams, Romo is throwing to a 7th rounder in Crayton and two guys that were never drafted.

I'd say the Colts and Giants put a premium on surrounding the qb with some receivers with a college pedigree.

First of all, Nicks is not a "jag" and Manningham was "The" player at Michigan. They are not Sam Hurd. Crayton is not fast and besides the Cowboys haven't thrown the ball deep since Tampa but 1 time and Phillips intercepted that.

Tony gets to throw to Roy Williams (1st round draft pick), Patrick Crayton (7th rounder), Sam Hurd (UDFA), and Miles Austin (UDFA).

Eli gets to throw to Mario Manningham (3rd rounder), Steve Smith (2nd rounder), Hakeem Nicks (1st rounder), Sinoirce Moss (2nd rounder).

Now, draft status doesn't necessarily mean the end all be all... however, the Giants have committed more resources to the position than we have. So odds are, they'll have reaped more benefits than we have at that position... which benefits Eli moreso than Tony.

Touche! The difference is the Colts and Giants have more talented wr's than the Cowboys. I was all for letting TO go and seeing the improvement in our young wr's, specifically Austin, but IMO the Cowboys wr corp is way below average. I would love to be proved wrong though. Maybe the Cowboys coaching staff do not do a good job coaching em up, and/or the Cowboys scouting dept. do a bad job evaluating talent. I wish I knew. :bang2:

The point is Peyton and Eli have had less time to work with there young WR's, yet you don't hear the same tired excuses about them not being on the same page or miscommunication. Again, what are OTA's, minicamps, training camp, and preseason games for?

I just wish they brought in actual competition for Hurd and Austin

they were practically given spots, for competing amongst themselves for 3 years
