Eli Manning has had remarkably good health for a QB. Part of it is that he throws the ball almost before the center hands it to him.

The Giants are predicted to be in a hunt for the NFC East crown because of the defense and that potent group of wide outs.

Having said that, with the porous line the Giants have and Eli's frail physique, and a lack of a running game, I think this is the year that Eli gets planted into the turf and goes on the IR. It's shaping up to go down just like that. His good luck has run out and Father Time is marching on him pretty rapidly.

At first I thought the thread title said....Eli IS Odd....:muttley:....

Yeah, been thinking of that for the last few years. Our players, especially Tony always getting hurt and missing the season or significant time.
As where Eli does not, not do their players, or not too many anyway.

It will catch up to them, as well as Philly and Washington.
Hope we can just have a healthy season for once, besides the nicked up players we have now. Once they and Hitchens return it sure would be nice for once.

As I said in another thread, the love affair with the Giants this season strikes me as overkill and I suspect rather than us being the disappointment in 2017, it will be the Giants. I think the competition for the division is between us and Philly.

I'm not sure what you're on about here. The quick passing offense that the Giants have employed is fairly recent. Eli is and has always been extremely durable, just like Peyton. He is very tough and has never been afraid to hang in the pocket and make a throw. He's taken tons of hits over the years and has always gotten up. He's the opposite of frail.
Now I do agree that at some point his luck is going to be up and he's going to miss some time. Because luck is also a huge part of health.

Some players simply know how to take a hit/tackle. It seemed Emmitt always knew how to turn, twist, or move when a hit was coming. Eli seems to have this trait. Favre had it too. Jerry Rice never seemed to take a big hit....

Tony Romo did not have this skill. As a matter of fact, it seems that he had the opposite problem. He would turn into the hit, or turn his shoulders to the ground.

I don't think it's much of a competition, head to head. I do think the Eagles will win a bunch of games by virtue of them having a soft schedule.

Their schedule isn't that soft. The Eagles are better than people give them credit for. Their roster is a much better roster than what they trotted out last year.

Cmon, we can bash him all we want for so many thing, but Eli is a physically tough dude. No one plays as consistently as he has in this league without being tough.

I'm not sold. I think they're an 8-8 team that's going to climb to 9-7 or 10-6 because of schedule.

They play DAL/NYG/WAS x 2 -- I can see them going 4-2, getting swept by us. In reality, they sweep Washington and split with New York. 3-3.

AFC and NFC West -- KC/LAC/OAK/DEN. I can see them going 2-2, winning against two of those teams, maybe 3-1 depending how overrated you think the Chargers are. The might beat Oakland too, since Oakland has to travel east.

For SF/LAR/SEA/ARI -- they go 2-2. Beat the Rams and Niners, lose to Seahawks and Cardinals.

They also get the Panthers (L) and Bears (W).

NFC East: Split 3-3
AFC West: Split 2-2
NFC West: Split 2-2
CAR: L
CHI: W

9-7.

If they overachieve, it's because they pick up an extra game against each divisional opponent and its purely because of schedule.

I have no problem with that.

Or...defenders tackled Romo harder because he was proven to be the most unprotected quarterback in the NFL by the refs and to some extent his o line during the middle of his career.

On paper, I'd say you are correct. But some how, some way, the Giants figure out ways to circumvent issues that would be damning for our Cowboys. We've had several terrible offensive lines over the year and just about every time we paid dearly for it.

The Giants, on the other hand, make it work because like @Verdict suggested, Eli get's rid of the ball typically within about 3 seconds. If the Cowboys do in fact shift to more zone coverage, that aspect of Eli's game should help us. But, to be honest, I thought the same thing last year and we all know how that turned out.

It's a bit of a leap to think we will sweep them. The teams have split the last 4 years. They could go 4-2 in division, sweeping the Skins (they have lost 5 straight to the Skins though), and then splitting with the Giants and us.

I suspect they are in the 9-7, 10-6 range. Depending on what happens to Elliott and how quick or slow the secondary develops, we could be in that 11-5, 10-6 range making it a close race for the division.

But their schedule is not soft. Football Outsiders, for example, had their schedule rated #1 in the entire league.

I think the Eagles will be at the bottom of the division when all is said and done. Washington will be better than most believe they will be.

I think Cousins will parlay this season into an epic contract. Epic. Lol

That first game in Washington could be a very early indicator on where each team will likely held. If Philly loses in Washington, their next two are @KC and home against the Giants. Lose in Washington, they could be heading into their home opener 0-2 in a must win against the Giants.

Philly has lost 5 straight to Washington and something tells me that will end in Week 1.

I agree with the sentiment that the Commanders will surprise. Can't sleep on the Commanders or anyone in the NFC East. ALL games will be close.

Eli regularly gets planted in the turf. He just keeps getting up. The Giants are a better team this year on both sides of the ball. We're better than how we played them last year.......will be a hell of a ball game....
