Sorry if repost, but I thought it was a nice story. Here's an excerpt:

Tebow recently confessed his affection for the Cowboys during a recent public speech. He became a fan because Smith, a former Florida Gators great, was also a Cowboys star.
"I was actually a Dallas Cowboys fan," Tebow said. "I love the University of Florida. I love the Gators. I love Emmitt, and Emmitt Smith went on to be a Cowboy, so I always followed the Cowboys."
Tebow said he loved watching Smith play but never got to meet his idol. That is, until the national championship game his junior year, when an exhausted Tebow took off his helmet on the sideline and let it roll away.
"I leaned over to grab my helmet and, all of a sudden, I see this blinged-out cuff link grab my helmet," Tebow said. "And I see Emmitt Smith with my helmet. And he sticks it in my chest and says, 'Go get them. You've got 20 more minutes. Finish this thing.'
"I was like, What's up, Emmitt Smith?"

Emmitt made me a Cowboys fan when I was 11 years old :)

Funny thing is, Emmitt made me a Cowboys fan 24 years before he became a Cowboy. That's the power of Emmitt Smith!

That his football hero is a RB speaks volumes about Tebow. He would have been better off converting to a rushing FB in the NFL. Tebow could be the next Mike Alstott.

I really want to agree with you, but that's one heck of a position switch...

NE might really push Tebow into a TE type role now that they are really thin at that position.

His measurables compare favorably to Aaron Hernandez especially considering that Pro Day numbers are almost always better than combine numbers.

Tim Tebow (combine)
Height: 6026
Weight: 236
40 Yrd Dash: 4.71
20 Yrd Dash: 2.66
10 Yrd Dash: 1.55
225 Lb. Bench Reps:
Vertical Jump: 38 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'07"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.17
3-Cone Drill: 6.66

Aaron Hernandez (Pro Day)
Height: 6023
Weight: 245
40 Yrd Dash: 4.64
20 Yrd Dash: 2.71
10 Yrd Dash: 1.65
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 30
Vertical Jump: 33
Broad Jump: 09'03"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.18
3-Cone Drill: 6.83

He's a Patriot....

I did not know that. The last thing I heard about him was when the Jets released him and he was out of football at the moment.

I guess that just shows how much interest I have in the guy...which is none.

With the Hernandez thing going on - this signing is far more intriguing. Having said that - I can't stand either the Pats or Tebow - so I wish them nothing but the worst.

I have no love for the Patriots or the Gators but Tebow has been nothing but a class act and I have much respect for him. Even with all his publicity he has never been a "me first" type player. And every where he goes he gets rave reviews about his work ethic and team mentality. Just because the Gators did him a disservice and didn't get him the right coach to fix his mechanics in college doesn't make him a bad person. I have no doubt that Belichek (eck!) will get the most out of him.
