Hope you guys enjoy this vid I made late last night...

I went with that final drive because of the tone that was being set of how great an event it was that Emmitt Smith was carrying his team down the field for a game winning FG with one arm.

Madden and Summerall were the best.

This game has been running for a few weeks on the NFL Network, but I know not everyone gets that station (which is just stupid) so I hope if those guys hadn't seen this in a while they could enjoy some of it as well.

Emmitt turned himself into a legend on that day!

Love the good old days!

"Insiders" say this it the game where Emmitt earned the name "Emmy" for his not-so-hurt performance.

Spags is where I heard about this. He certainly looks injured when I watch the game.

My fav part is when they show Lawrence Taylor just sitting on the field after tackling Emmitt. Emmitt has one arm, goes for 170+ on the ground and who knows how much through the air, and LT is too tired to get up after a play.

Great game!

In his career as a broadcaster John Madden only went to the locker room after a game one time. It was after this game to tell Emmitt Smith that was the gutsiest performance he had ever seen.

All those years in the booth, John visited the locker room once.

Speaks volumes about the respect level he had for that game.

Wow. I didn't know that.

Seeing Rodney Hamptons name up there reminded me of something I read somewhere, but I'm not too sure on the details. I think it was something along the lines of Rodney Hampton was the back that Jimmy Johnson really wanted in 1990.

I could be way off. Anyone able to clear up that foggy memory for me?

Madden seemed to think Emmitt was truly hurt, because when he did go down to the locker room, apparently Emmitt was on the trainer table, getting shot up and treated in the shoulder that was dislocated during the game.

I have a Madden book where he talks about it, I'll need to go look it up again, but that is the first time I heard Emmitt was putting on an acting show.

The guy never really did that, heck he almost broke his neck selling a fake dive over the pile at the goal-line in a Chicago game if I remember. If it was one thing Emmitt wasn't was a soccer style, writhe on the ground kind of player!

Oh I've heard it before, but I know it's only because people refuse to give the 90s Cowboys credit for some strange reason. That team was loaded with talent, no doubt, but the individual talent added up to the team talent. Yet Emmitt was only good because of his O-line. Aikman was only good because of the system. Irvin was only good because he pushed off. Blah, blah, blah. I'm not surprised there are those who won't admit that this was one of the most heroic performances of all time by Emmitt Smith. Thank God the Hall of Fame voters put Troy and Michael in without playing their political nonsense game. It will soon be Emmitt's turn and I don't want to hear any Barry Sanders crap on Emmitt's big day.

Thanks for posting. I miss those days for sure. Also reminded me how money Aikman always was in big games.

Troy stood clam and hit his best option - waiting till the last minute to unload a rope to Moose and keep the drive alive. Gawd I miss that kind of play in big games.

I haven't heard that one, but I have a good Rodney Hampton story. I used to work at a sporting goods store when I was in college. One of the guys that worked there, Chris, had this happen to him.

It was right after the 1995 Draft and the Giants had just drafted Tyrone Wheatley in the 1st round. A Giants fan came in the store and went to the poster rack. He found a Rodney Hampton poster and he broughtit up to he counter. Chris, the store Assistant Manager told him he would give him a discount since Hampton was probably on his way to being phased out by the Giants.

The guy was incensed that Chris suggested this. Chris told him they had drafted Wheatley and explained his reasoning. The guy insisted Hampton was not going anywhere and he refused the discount.

He wouldn't pay for the poster until Chris agreed to charge him full price for it.

CBS during the 1990s had the best football presentation of any network in any decade, in my opinion. Both the music and graphics possessed an elegance and refinement that remains unmatched to this day. And Madden and Summerall, the best announcing duo ever, were at the height of their profession.

Having said that, NBC's Sunday Night Football is a very good presentation, and may soon rival that of CBS's glory years.

Madden left and Cris Collinsworth is replacing him. That alone is a step backwards.

I was thinking about what I said more today, and I think the way it went was that if Emmitt wasn't available and since we weren't able to get the LB'ers Jimmy wanted, that Rodney Hampton would have been our pick.
