He said that Phillips is a good coach but he maybe too relax and the cowboys made need a guy like Johnson or Parcells who will be always on them and demand perfection.
Yeah... What's Parcells doing these days? I bet we'd be unstoppable if we could get him to coach us.

Emmitt was spot on in his "analysis." The coaching staff did not have the team prepared mentally down the stretch last year. Everyone, from the head coach on down, ate the cheese about 13-3 and it came back to bite us in the ***. Now, the question is can anyone get this team to focus? People are right who say Parcells was here for 4 years and even he could do nothing about the late season collapse. So what is the answer? One things is clear, the opposite approach didn't work either.

And yeah I agree about Gurode, strange how the "best center in the league" can't seem to snap the ball consistently well. That's part of the eating the cheese, I guess. If you are the best center in the league, what incentive do you have to improve?

I think Emmitt's off base to try to compare his experiences w/ our great 90s team to last year's squad. While last season's version was talented, they were no way as good as Smith's teams. I really didn't like him throwing fuel onto the "Cabo" fire and calling Tony a "celeb QB" (which makes it seem like Romo would rather be on a red carpet instead of the film room)! If we as fans have heard about Romo's work ethic I know as a (so-called) NFL analyst that he has to know how hard Tony works on his craft. I'll always be a fan of #22, and he is entitled to his opinion, but when he's talking about the 'Boys I think he needs to remember that their (the 90s teams) greatness will be difficult for anyone to duplicate.

Smith was on the local radio station as he is playing in the Lake Tahoe Celebrity golf tournament. He was discussing his strengths and weaknesses as a tv analysis and of course the interviewers asked what he thought of the cowboys collapse last year. He reported that he did not think that the cowboys had any motivation or excitement at all at the end of the season espicially in the playoffs against the Giants. Felt that the Giants showed more emotion than the cowboys and that our team had more talent then them. No way the Cowboys lose with the talent that they had but it appeared that they lacked any heart. He said that Jimmy Johnson made the practices so hard that the games were easy to play and that they did not worry if they were behind due to how hard the practices were. He said that Phillips is a good coach but he maybe too relax and the cowboys made need a guy like Johnson or Parcells who will be always on them and demand perfection. He went on to say that Johnson would never have let them have 4 days off before the playoffs and that Romo going to Cabo with Jessica was a distraction to the team. He said that you do not need to be a celebrity QB in this league.

He was very blunt and straight forward and did not appear to mince any words. It almost sounded as if he was uspet with the Cowboys last year for missing out on golden opportunity. Just FYI.

hip hip horray !!!! finally someone who has the Nads to say it like it is !!!!

Good for you Emmitt !!!

If you want to quote Emmit you have make sure you type like he speaks. So that means you have to miss pronounce about every third word he speaks. Worst sports analyst EVER. And I love Emmit the player. But Emmit the analyst was just horrible.

I agree totally with Emmitt's comments. That's why Jason needs to take over after this year. He was there under Jimmy and knows what it takes (as a head coach) to survive in the post season. Jason, as a co-ordinator can only do so much. But as The Head Coach.....well, it gets exciting just thinking about it. One more year of post season floundering will seal the deal for Wade's retirement.

I have to agree with you on this one. It wasn't the most articulate interview I have heard these guys do. He did mispronounce some words. I was just trying to give you guys some insight on a former cowboys and what he had to say about the present day cowboys. Like I said before, he was very blunt and did not hold anything back.

By the way, how many playoff games did Parcells win in Dallas? And how many playoff games did Johnson win in Miami? And which coach in the modern era has the worst playoff loss, and one of the worst NFL losses ever? What was the problem, didn't Jimmuh demand perfection?

Emmitt continues in the grand tradition of great football players who are terrible analysts.

Bucky Godbolt?

When will you be doing another football camp?

People seem to forget that Parcells had this team one missed FG away from finally winning a playoff game. No one knows how far that 2006 team could have gone if they won that game in Seattle.

The guy also built this team.

Now I am not saying his manner was the right way or the wrong way. Just as I don't know if Wade's Manner is the right way or the wrong way.

Personally I think the players have to be more accountable for their failings.

I think the comments in bold are pretty much worthless.

So many people want to make definitive statements about heart and character based on their superficial observations.

The formula for winning and losing is not that cut and dried and I keep going back to this example. Scott Norwood pushed a FG wide and in the process gave 53 NY Giants the "heart of champions" while simultaneously turning his 52 Buffalo teammates into gutless wimps.

Its just not that simple

The Giants run prove the bold is worth a lot. On paper, the Boys, Packers and Pats should've made short work of em and beat em like they all did in the regular season which was in their own backyard. But instead, they beat all three teams and regardless of how close the score was, they dominated the Packers and Patriots for the majority of those games. They were playing with chemistry and they were playing with the belief that they were truely the better team. Multiple Cowboys players even admitted the Giants were more intense and they took em lightly cause they swept em in the regular season.

Did you see that game? Do you remember the difference in talent of those two teams? Do you not remember how big of an upset that was?

The Giants were overmatched and had no business even being ahead by one point with under 10 seconds on the clock.

If anything Norwood became the symbol of a team who went into the game thinking they had already won a Super Bowl. Then before they knew what hit them they were bloodied and being pushed around like little kids by a team that had more heart and desire to be champions.

How are you so sure where to draw the line between heart and talent, though?

All this "on paper" stuff confuses me. People act like they are so sure that, in this case for instance, that Giants team was so overmatched despite having LT, Banks, Marshall, Bavaro, Howard, Johnson, Roberts, Oates, etc.

I mean, that D lead the league in points allowed.

You sure the Bills had that much more talent and just didn't want it?

I think he was absolutely right about our guys taking the Giants lightly.
And its clear we were not really ready to play our best at that time.
That is mostly on the coach.

I have always felt that way about THAT game. We were not mentally prepared to play and win in the playoffs and I lay a great deal of responsibility for that on the Head Coach.

You can never se sure. But saying that heart and desire are not just as much a part of the game as talent is false IMO.

There are plenty of players who aren't the greatest ahtletes in the world, but they will their way to become NFL players.

Just like there are many freakishly athletic people that fail at lasting a day in the NFL because they don't have the heart and desire to make it.

So then we can say that if the talent is evenly matched then who should win the battle?

I would rather go with heart and desire over luck.

As for the Bills being more talented. I think if you asked football fans, players in the game at that time and GM/Coaches/Owners which of those two teams had more talent they would all say the Bills.
