Shaun Alexander failed to score a touchdown today, so Emmitt still holds the record for touchdowns in a season, including the playoffs, with 31 in the 1995 season.

Thanks for posting that I didn't know. I need some good news today. The great news about the HOF kinda got lost on me tonight.

Adam, if I am not mistaken Emmitt and Terrell Davis were the only NFL rushing leaders to lead their teams to the Super Bowl before Alexander this year. The biggest difference is they won it all, and he's now come up short. Is this correct info, or am I off base?

Also, who holds the all time record for season rushing yards if the post season is counted? I'm guessing it's still Dickerson, but I don't know for sure.

I'm thinking Jamal Lewis had more than 49 post season yards in '03.

Most Yards Gained, Season
2,105 Eric Dickerson, L.A. Rams, 1984
2,066 Jamal Lewis, Baltimore, 2003
2,053 Barry Sanders, Detroit, 1997

Correction: Baltimore played only one playoff game that season ... maybe not. I haven't been able to find a box score for that game.

I'm sorry but Shaun Alexander is weak.

He's the league MVP and the Hawks can't put the ball in his hands to slow the game down and tire the Steelers' defense?

If it's Emmitt Smith or Terrell Davis, both their teams would have fed them the ball and they would have run between the tackles and worn down the Steelers defense.

But Shaun just runs sweeps.

The Steelers D is too fast for those plays.

MVP?! HAH!!! Alexander is the softest RB in the league. Mr MVP hasnt shown up in 1 importnat game that I have ever witnessed. He was absolutely invislbe throughout the playoffs. Pathetic. And this guy is the MVP? Give me St Louis, Arizon and SF 6 times a year, and Ill put up 28 too

In Shaun's defense, the Hawks just didn't give him enough touches. The running game was there, especially in the 2nd half. it's Holgrem so it isn't really a shock.

Lewis only ran for 35 yards in that play-off game. Here is a link: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/LewiJa00.htm

ha that girly RB didnt get touches, because he was to scared to lower his head and run in between the tackles, unless there was a wide open hole. Remeber the little girl doesnt like getting hit in the mouth.

20 carries for 95 yards. 4.75 YPC average.

Oh yes, he was definitely their problem.

Alexander was getting yards up the middle in the second half as well.

I was wondering if they ever intended on using the fella. Seems like all they did was pass in the 1st half. I guess I can't fault him too much, even Belichick said in the pre-game that the only way to beat Pittsburgh was to pass.
