In our series of fan base analyses across leagues, we adjust for these complicating factors using a revenue premium model of fan equity. The key idea is that we look at team box office revenues relative to team on-field success, market population, stadium capacity, median income and other factors.

Eh, this is a deal where the results invalidates the test itself. To come up with this order means they're looking at the wrong data and variables. Tennessee Titans over Green Bay Packers? Please.

Yet there are those who question if the Cowboys are still America's Team or not.

I just don't understand why so many idiots run with this notion that our fanbase is full of bandwagoners.

I get that we are also the most hated team in the league. Still, I'm in complete agreement with you.

Interesting. Wouldn't think the Falcons would be so low.

I lived in Atlanta and it doesn't surprise me at all.

I think it was 2000 and I had nothing to do. So at about 10:30 in the morning my brother-in-law said 'let's see if we can catch the Falcons game' which took place at 1pm.

We drove down and the first scalper we saw had tickets for $25 a piece. They were 3 rows above the tunnel where the players come out from.

The next season they got Vick and the place did better attendance. Then in 2002 Vick was the full-time starter and you would think that Falcons fans were there suddenly 30-year fans of the team.

The following season after that, Vick gets injured and once again you had little trouble getting tickets.

There are a certain group of Falcons fans that are as diehard as they get. But most of them are very fair weather and have no interest in going to their favorite SEC team's game on Saturday and then seeing the Falcons on Sunday, unless the Falcons are good as well. And a large portion of Atlanta are people that are fans of other teams like Cowboys, Steelers, Browns, Steelers, Packers, Bears and Vikings.

I think it's a misnomer that we had a 'bandwagon' base back in the 90's dynasty.

I grew up watching football well before the 90's dynasty in upstate NY. And I can tell you that before the Bills were good, the top-3 most favorite teams in the area were:

1. NY Giants
2. Dallas
3. Miami

At this time, you would have a better chance of catching polio than finding a Bills fan. Then, the Bills start winning and all of the sudden there are Bills fans everywhere. My friends and I used to joke that 'Bills fans are nothing but hacked off Giants fans that couldn't take it anymore.'

Anyway, I think the football world just never quite realized how popular the Cowboys were before the 90's dynasty. And then they became a dynasty and their fans were up front and center and they assumed that because these fans were not from Texas, then they must be bandwagon fans.

Or at least that makes them feel better when they go to sleep at night.

I wonder if anybody has ever taken a poll on why people are so interested in polls?

I was in Cortland, NY hanging with a bunch of guys who were Bills fans for the first Cowboys-Bills SB. That was fun. They were filled with so much hope, such dreams! And then they blocked the Cowboys punt! And I just smiled and thought, "prepare for the storm, it's coming."

And it did.

Yeah, it is in Tennessee too, which is why putting the Titans over the Packers, who have NOTHING but cheese and beer and Packers football to look forward to, is asinine.

The study seems pretty flawed. It is indifferent to who buys the tickets home fans or away (Dallas for instance, has to lead the league in absolute #'s of away fans / home game). And It measures the box office $ amount as an indication of relative fan interest which certainly has a modern stadium / corporate box bias over something like Lambeau. The Cowboys should be at the upper end of the scale but Packer, Steeler and Bronco fans should be much higher than they are ranked here IMO.

Doesn't surprise me too much YR. Not a home grown city with lots of out of towners/states/countries. Hos and I went to the Atl game last year and they were fairly sedate probably as or more so than Dallas fans at the stadium. Definitely not the Steelers, Browns, NYG, NYJ, Eagles fans.

San Diego 11th? LOL I lived in San Diego for over 20 years, if you asked the average San Diegan what they think of the Chargers chances they'd tell you they'll be fine if they get more pitching.
