Just saw some clips of ABC's Monday night football on ESPN News.
Showed Howard with the Cigar.
Showed Randall Cunningham staying on his feet and throwing the TD pass.

What is your greatest memory of ABC Monday Night football?
I would say Howard's Half Time highlights.

Just sad to see it go to a watered down, very biased network in ESPN.

I'm going to keep it Cowboys and go with Emmitt's long TD run at the Meadowlands against the Giants in 1994... first Monday night game of the year.

It was the climax of our 3 out of 4 Super Bowl victories. Giving the Cowboys 8 appearances in it's existance, and 5th Super Bowl victory overall, tying the 49ers in Super Bowl wins.

The debacle against the Cardinals in '70, (I believe), 38-0 or something like that, is a bad memory.

TD's 99 yarder was the best memory for me. Unbelievable to watch it live. I thought he would be pushed out of bounds around the Viking's 30 yard line.

Definitely one of my top, if not my ONLY, top one.

Was the Emmitt separated shoulder vs the Giants a Monday night game? I can't remember for sure.

No Sir...That was a Sunday 12 Noon Game.

You could be thinking about the Monday night game against the Giants.....On Cowboy's 1st offensive play ..Emmitt broke a long one for a TD.

1) Emmitt opening the 1995 season with a 65 (or so) yard run for a touchdown against the Giants at New York on the first play of the season. I put this one first only because it was the first play of the season and kind of set the tone for the entire season with it ending with a Super Bowl win.

2) Tony Dorsett taking the ball 99 yards for a touchdown against the Vikings.

TD's 99 yarder for me. Still lost the game. It was the 1982 finale and the game really had no bearing for us. I believe the Vikes just went up 11, Rod Hill muffed the kick and the ball went out inside the one.

When Tony broke out of the pack and geared towards the right sideline, you could see big trouble brewing for their defense. It was at that moment Don go, "Oh no!"

I can still hear it.

Oh, also...

The next regular season game, in fact. In Washington for the '83 opener at RFK. We were down 23-3 at the half. Dominated.

In the second half, Danny White hooked up with Tony Hill for two deep touchdowns. Dallas won 31-30.

Wasn't Emmitt's big half against the Vikes on Monday night? Where he had something like 150 yards and two TDs, but broke his finger on his last TD run?

He would have set the single game rushing record.

I remember him breaking off a long TD, then on the next Drive he comes out and takes it to the house again, only yo get his finger caught in a players facemask. He should have taped it up and went for the record.

Dallas was playing the New England Patriots, although they may have been the Boston Patriots at the time.

Howard was all over Dallas that game. He was obviously favoring the Pats and his color analysis was slanted away from Dallas.

Dallas ran out of time once before they snapped the ball and took a penalty.

Again in that quarter they had to call a time out because of the play clock.

A third time they called a time out because they were not getting the plays in on time.

Cosell then said, "This is bush."

If you don't know, the term means bush league. he was calling dallas a very unprofessional team by making that statement.

Don Meredith immediately said, "No Howard, it isn't. What would you know about bush leaguers?"

There was a very long pause of silence broken by Frank Gifford setting up the next play.

As is the way in BIG BUSINESS Monday Night Football is going where it belongs... with the leader of the sports world. ESPN.

It isnt so different from the Cowboys getting their own network.

let him have his moment. It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since his team has been able to compete with us...even when we were aweful, we still owned the skins.

Well, it is one of my favorite MNF games.

Over the years there have been so many its hard to say which were the best.

92 Commanders / Denver game comes to mind.

Commanders typically play so poorly on MNF that most of my favorite memories are from games with spectacular catches, comebacks, or runs involving other teams. :(

That one is mine. It was also the game where Darrell Green was kind of unknown until he ran TD down from behind.

One thing that's kind of lost now is how unique Monday Night Football was in its true heyday. It was really an event for football fans, something some special, especially when you got to see teams that you didn't really see all that much.

Nothing lasts forever, but MNF did a pretty good job. It might have lasted longer if not for the parity that exists. In earlier years, they could pick a schedule and say, "This will be a good game", but that's not the case any more. Now it goes the way of Monday Night Baseball.

November 8, 1999, the first Monday Night game after Payton's death. You're right EE, 150 yards in the 1st half alone, and he did get his hand caught on the Vikings player's facemask on the way to the end zone on the 2nd TD. We ended up losing too.
