He had a heck of a year, and it was great while it lasted. It looks to be the last year I will be able to coach him as he is now looking to move beyond having his Dad involved with him in football.

Just for interest sake is there anyone who is presently coaching peewee or Bantam football who wouldn't mind me picking their brain about their experiences in coaching the game?

Please PM me. Thanks in advance.

We had our last game of the season this year too.

I was assistant coach of my son's pee wee team. It was 6-7 year old tackle.

It was a great experience for both him and me!

...there is a higher ramp in football in America. You start them so young.

Up here the earliest you can be involved in contact football is at 10 years of age. Anything younger and it is touch or flag football.

Good looking kid. What position did he play? What positions did you coach?

We played flag last year... that league is 5 and 6 year olds.

This is the first year our county had tackle for kids under 8. It was a pilot program and I think it worked out great. Our youth football program now has 4 tackle divisions divided by age... this was the first year for the "D" league.

Primarily, it was 7 year olds, but you could petition (pretty informal process) to have a 6 year old play, and if you had an 8 year old who wasn't ready for C league, you could have them play down.

My son was the youngest kid on our team, and I think I'm going to have him stay in D league next year as well, instead of moving up to C... he's just a little too small right now.

He played back-up running back/wing back (usually had 1 or 2 carries per game) and offensive line... he's a determined little blocker despite his size! On defense he played all over, but primarily linebacker.

We played kids all over the place in multiple positions. The only positions we had really set were QB (we had 2 rotate) and RB (we had 3 rotate) and center.

Once kids move up to C league, there are weight restrictions where you can't run the ball if you are too light or too heavy.

I mostly coached defense and during the game I managed our substitutions... I don't really have any playing experience myself, so it was a neat learning experience for me as well as my son.

When I was growing up, the earliest you could play was 11 or 12 years old... and I think that's just too late. Things are so competitive by that age. It's nice, when you start them off this early, where they can just have fun and learn the game with no pressure.

Also, they're so small, they really can't hurt each other. We had no significant injuries all year... nothing that wasn't fine by the next day.

...that's great! It's good to see kids have a bit of fun and success at an early age.

Take pictures of your kid making the winning play and share them with us.

...concept. Starting at 11 is too late and there are a considerable amount of kids who hit their growth spurt by then. Under 10 there is rarely a size imbalance and most of the tackling looks like kids wrestling more than anything else.

It' such a fun time for kids and I'm glad you little guy is enjoying himself. Given the choice of positions he has experienced it looks like he's going to have some fun in the future with alot of choices on the field to play.

The worst injury for our team was a heel bruise that wouldn't go away for our slotback receiver. Other than that it was the usual suspects of bumps and bruises that rarely persisted for more than a few days.

Hopefully you continue in coaching and your son continues playing. He's got the right haircut for football!

Unfortunately we had several major injuries with at least one a game. Your always thankful its not your son in the back of the ambulance.

Just finishing up my son's second season of playing tackle football, so I thought I'd resurrect this thread and see how everyone's youth football seasons went this year.

This year I agreed to be head coach, and boy was it a lot of work! I think I'm going to take a step back next year.

We had a good little team. They don't keep official score for the 7-year old age group, but we had a lot of ties and games where there was a one TD difference in the unofficial score.

My boy really came along this year and was definitely one of our better players, after being on the small end of the spectrum last year.

He scored a couple of TDs and even had an interception he returned for a TD in our last game.

Anyway, had a couple of good pics I thought I'd share.

I'd love to hear if anyone else had a good experience coaching your kids this year!

Cool pics, Danny.

Do you just take pics, or also record?

My father used to record my games. That was a blast.

...that a mighty fine looking player you got there. I hope the season was fun for both you and him. It's a real special feeling a father and son can share when they spend a season on the same team.

I can't believe the QB got that pass off with the defenders in his face. We take pictures tomorrow and I hope to be able to share a few things with the forum.

That was my boy! :) We don't throw too much at that age... maybe 2 or 3 times a game, but he's had about four completions this year.

We usually have about 20 offensive plays a game, and about 90% of them are runs.

So far we've gotten 9 of our 12 players at least one carry this year, and we have 6 different kids who have gotten to score TDs, so it's been neat to see a lot of the players get involved.

The pictures were taken by my wife and by one of the other parents. I'd love to record the games, but I can't do it while coaching, and I don't think any of the parents have been filming them. I love watching the tape, so it's a shame that no one's recording them.

Great TTT DW. I love to see little guys playing full contact football. Teaches them to deal with pain at an early age. It worked for me anyway.
