This is why I was more for Jalen Ramsey than EE. Now, I would take EE over Ramsey even though Ramsey had a terrific rookie season. I didn't think EE would be this good. Furthermore, as poor as our pass defense was this year, it improved noticeably from 2015.

With the pass defense being what it is, we are playing with fire and eventually we got burned against the Packers. We need to create more turnovers, we need better help from our linebackers in coverage, we need a DE that can consistently win 5-10 snaps a game and we need a more versatile SS. It's not all about getting pressure on the QB because QB's tend to get the ball out so quickly that teams can't really get to the QB. I personally think if we get much better at SS and the MIKE, we'll see a noticeable improvement in our pass defense alone. And that may be enough to win us a Super Bowl.

Agreed. A couple better DE's would certainly help but better players in the back 7 is going to help also.

The DE position has probbly made the largest change in the past 5 years because it's so hard to get to the QB. Even as great as Von Miller is, every team has built in their offense to change to short, quick throws from the shotgun to take away a Von Miller. So now you need edge rushers that can re-direct and chase after the WR as well. And according to Pat Kirwan, he surveyed a bunch of NFL QB's and each of them said that interior pressure gives them far more problems than pressure from the edge. Which makes sense given today's schemes and the heavy use of shotgun in offenses these days.

That's why I want to still go for BPA in the draft and hopefully it's on defense. While it would be nice to have that BPA at DE, an impact player at DT, MLB, Safety or corner could easily make a huge difference to this defense because we are lacking at those positions as wel.

Agreed.

And many forget this Dallas defense led the league in sacks over the last 6 weeks of the season. It's not like the cupboard is empty at DT. Add a Sheard/Allison plus 1st or 2nd round DE and that position is upgraded.

In the nearly 2,000 games played since 2010, including playoffs, the Cowboys rank 4th in offensive passer rating, and 29th in defensive passer rating. Only the Saints have a greater differential.

And the Saints ranked 3rd in defensive passer rating the year they won the Super Bowl (2009).

We bought ourselves more time by finding Dak, but if the last seven years are any indication, time doesn't build a good defense. We're actually going to have to commit some resources.

We need to throw 3 or 4 DE's up against the wall and see if we can at least two to stick.
