Look no further than LAST year. We could not get A FIRST DOWN quite often. That is just unheard of with todays rules. We won a playoff game without Troy! We won a Super Bowl with Barry Switzer! Heck we came close to winning 2 Super Bowls with Barry Switzer! This franchise is more broken than people realize....especially compared to the 90s.

This post made me get back into the swing of football mode and got me fired up to the point where I had to post.

I would love to be a fly on the wall when Romo and Witten are having a beer.

Both guys have put up ring of honor worthy careers - and had to watch Garrett get a 10 year internship to play with their careers while going through power struggles with established offensive minds like Bill Callahan, Dan Reeevs, Tony Sparano, etc. Everyone else isn't crazy, the red spoiled posterchild of nepotism, doesn't play well with others and has had 1 winning season with a franchise QB that has a top 5 QBR ALL TIME. You almost have to try to lose when you have that good of QB play.

Entertaining and good for ratings. But truly an indictment of how great Romo and Witten have been - carrying scrubs and overpaid failures for years. I'm tired of watching our MVP be carried off the field, only to watch us lose every single game and fail to even get first downs like you mentioned above. It spoke volumes that the other 10 guys knew they were screwed without Romo. Hell Garrett and Jerry started to sell the tank job early last year. They looked defeated when Romo went down, then were buried on Thanksgiving. Pathetic really.

Here's a fun game, I call it the Romo challenge - go back and look at any career highlight tape. More than half of his TDs, highlights and big plays - have come OUTSIDE OF THE DESIGN OF THE INITIAL PLAY. Meaning that the protection, route tree, play call, etc - just doesn't work half the time.

Usually goes something like this - Romo has ball snapped at his feet, has to make a no look spin move to evade a free rusher, then find a receiver and deliver a perfectly placed strike directly into their chest or else they wont catch it if their name isn't Witten or Dez. It was so fun to watch him absolutely dominate with a receiver like Dez - and Dez' skill set isn't even that dynamic. I can't imagine what he would do with a guy like Beckham or Brown. And I'm a huge Dez fan, I just am a firm believer if this was Madden - Romo makes everyone 5 points better and makes his coach 100 points better. Because if it wasn't for Romo and Jerry Jones - he would have trouble finding a coordinator job. Maybe back for Saban at Alabama, but nowhere else.

Hell I have a buddy that swears if Jason Garrett was a minority he wouldn't have lasted 1 year, let alone 5 as a HC and 10 a coordinator.

We had to dumb it down to the point where Garrett had no control, and had to run the ball like its the 90s to have a semblance of a competitive season back in 2014.

You are what your record says you are - and we're an 8-8 team for the last 20 years and throughout Romo's tenure. But I like to think we're more of a 2-14 team without Romo, kinda like last year indicated.

Thoughts? Am I crazy? Am I overrating Romo? Or am I absolutely spot on and should get 100 likes? We'll see...

Without a doubt, Romo has been carrying this team on his back and dragging them to wins his whole career.

Hopefully another bell cow in the backfield will bring back some success. We have to limit his exposure, almost a pitch count of sorts. I hope Zeke is ready, he's about to get an opportunity - about 400+ of them.

I'd be shocked if what both Romo and Witten think about Coach Garrett privately isn't pretty much the same thing they (and others on the team) have said about him publicly on many occasions. I think it's only the fans who have a problem with the coach, and even then only for simplistic reasons.

Garrett will be lucky to get a job coaching peewee football once he's done here. His coaching performance last year was a disgrace.

Great post, I wish I could give it more than one like.

In their last 32 games, the Cowboys are 15-4 with Romo and 1-12 without. One and freaking twelve! Let that sink in. It is completely insane to have the worlds most valuable franchise have Garrett as a head coach.

I agree with you and Bailey, but at some point don't the star players have to go to the owner and let him know it's not working with the head coach. I mean Garrett has been here since 2007 and his anemic offense has been a problem for awhile yet Witten/Romo (two players that have serious clout with the owner) have never questioned Garrett. In fact, they are his biggest boosters. This is why I have a slight problem with those two. They always seem willing to tote the company line.

When Irvin had problems with certain players on the roster, he let it be known to Jimmy. When Aikman had a problem with Switzer, he let it be known to everyone. When Haley had a problem with Emmitt's holdout, he almost killed Jerry. That's the difference between the dawgs we had in the 90's and our current day loveable losers. They were so hungry to win back then that they were never scared to step on toes and let their opinions be known when someone wasn't carrying their weight, whether it be players, the head coach, or the owner.

Are you kidding? It's a big reason why Linehan was brought in.
He's just cool about not being a dbag and doing it in public.

Garret is an OK coach but I can't stand his play calling sometimes. He has to be the most afraid and conservative coach ever. It's costed Dallas a lot of games for sure.

Congrats on finally realizing Romo has been carrying this pathetic staff for years. If there was ANY doubt for anyone, last year should have sealed the deal! We could not win a single game with a backup QB save the Skins player basically gift wrapping us a game. I admit I was fooled a little in 2014. I started to think maybe Garrett's OJT was paying off then when Romo went down last year it was on full display again proving what I thought all along that Romo has carried Garrett all while Garret cost us at least two games a season with beyond idiotic game / clock management costing us at least two games a season during the 8 - 8 years. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see this.

Where is the proof of this? Was Aikman being a dbag when he called out Switzer publically?

Linehan was a Garrett hire. All the way. I've never seen a shred of evidence that Romo is critical of Jason Garrett, and I've seen and heard a ton to indicate the opposite. But I'm all ears if you can cite anything different.

Now, if you had made the point that Jerry insisted Jason relieve himself of play calling duties in favor of Callahan in the first place, that much is obvious. But he also let him bring in his guy when Linehan became available.

Yes Linehan was a Garrett hire.

Look, I've spoken to the Romo family many times over the years.
All I can say from what I understand is this was old news several years ago and it wasn't anything bitter at all.
It wasn't dbag behind his back (or direct thru the media) stuff either. It was man to man (and even friend to friend).
I'll go no further than that.
