Who cares! They aren't playing to try and get Murray the all time single season record. They are playing to make the playoffs and to get a shot at the Super Bowl. I'll tell you this, if Murray fumbles 14 times, this team will not even sniff the playoffs. They aren't good enough to overcome those mistakes against the good teams they still have to play.
They overcame it today. Isnt that what really separates the great teams from the wanabes.

OK, first folks are comparing Murray to Emmitt Smith... now he's being compared to Eric Dickerson.

Who's next?

Gayle Sayers?
Jim Brown?

Sayers is a jerk. Not trying to bash someone, but I met the guy and I left telling him that " Walter Payton was better".

Let us not mention Murray in that same breath as Sayers please, gives me bad memories. Haha

13 fumbles for Murray would be pretty disastrous.

You can't have that AND have a QB on pace to throw 16 interceptions (as Romo is right now). That Cowboys might be able to <make> the playoffs turning it over an average of 2 times a game, but they won't advance far in the playoffs at that rate.

As a point of comparison the last two guys who rushed for 2000 yards looked like this:
  • Adrian Peterson fumbled it 4 times in 2012 when he went over 2000 yards.
  • Chris Johnson fumbled it 3 times in 2009 when he went over 2000 yards.

the fumbling concerns me ..... no doubt about that .....BUT..... like with Romo's INT's ..... you have to take them if you want them .....

I'll take Murray and his running with the fumbles ..... just like I'll take Romo and his passing with the INT's ..... don't know if my heart can take it tho .....

Exactly.

Next we'll be hearing that "Shorty" McGirk, fumbled 4 out of 5 games in 1934, when he led the league in rushing.

No, you shouldn't have to "take them".

That's an unacceptable position to take because most fumbles are due to a lack of concentration and nothing more.

trust me ..... I whole heartily agree I know I shouldn't .....BUT..... I'm not the coach and I'm sure they have the BEST player at the position playing ...so... it is what it is .....

Murray has been plagued by injuries much like Sayers was during his career.

I was just throwing Sayers name out... I could have tossed out any top back from history.

The point is comparing Murray to those great backs at this point in time is premature evaluation.

Houston is not in the same league as many of the teams left on Dallas' schedule. That was my point. If you look at the rest of the schedule and say Murray is going to fumble another 9 times, I'd say the playoffs would be a longshot.

And I was just joking around.

In 1984 he had 379 attempts, 2105 yards, and 14 fumbles.

Murray is on pace for 416 attempts, 2144 yards, and 12.8 fumbles.

Heck, Tony Dorsett fumbled 12 times in the 1978 season, when we lost the SB against the Steelers, and had 2 other seasons where he fumbled 10 or more times.

Is it the end of the world? I don't know, you tell me. I for one think Murray will get it together and this fumbling won't be an every week occurrence, but history tells us we can still go far.

(Yes, i'm trying to make light out of a bad situation in this thread)

Eric Dickerson never made it to a Super Bowl.

Tony Dorsett did, but he had a great defense to match a great offense.

The Cowboys have a scrappy defense, but not a great defense. Murray's fumble against the 49ers set the tone early in that game. And we basically were playing catch up. The game likely would have been different if Murray hadn't coughed up the football.

We may be an up-and-coming team, but we can't continue to overcome turnovers. Murray has got to learn how to hold onto the ball.

It's a different game today than it was in 1978 or 1984. Today it's about ourscoring your opponent and giving away possessions is a death sentence especially with our shaky defense.

This makes no sense. Fumbling the ball away to the other team is the same and bad no matter it 1978, 1984 or today.

Todays NFL is about scoring points. Back then there was actual defense being played.

The problem is...most teams with one or two losses could say the exact same thing. Reality is, all teams will turn the ball over and it will happen at inopportune times. No getting around it when balls must be handled multiple times on offensive plays, not to mention the intent of defenses to knock it loose. You want to keep turnovers to a minimum but they will happen, and many more will happen to the Cowboys this season. They are maddening because they are unpredictable and harshly arrest momentum. They instill us with a feeling that something has been stolen from us personally...and depending on the existing emotional investment, our response can be quite emotional and irrational. In other words, turnovers really s### !

Back then teams were built to march the field and defenses were made to stop them now with the offensive fire power of some teams and the rule changes a momentum swing can make a close game a blow out or make what should be a blow out a very close game.

That's still not an excuse to say it's more ok to fumble back then and not now. A fumble is a fumble in any era especially ones inside the opponents 10 yard line.

Now i feel soooo much better ;-)

No seriously. As long as he does not put both hands on the ball when he runs into traffic he wont stop fumbling.
The fumble on 3-1 against the Texans was as stupid as it gets (he already had the first down). And it was all his fault.

If i were the HC i would bench him for 1 game so he could make up his mind. Use both hands or catch a cold on the bench. Its his decission.

Leading rusher and all. He is hurting us and it nearly cost us the game against Houston.

And I'll guarantee you those coaches are telling Murray that he just can not keep coughing up the football.
