DT Sheldon Richardson finished the season with the same number of touchdowns while playing on the offense as Escobar. 2.

Since we are all picking apart the carcas from this game..

What about our rookie TE?

I was flabbergasted to see him take that pass to the house.

I'm not one to wax poetic over anybody on this team, but I was pleased to see this.

I suspected going into the game that becuz Orton played a lot with the second string guys..

...that somebody like an Escobar or DuWayne Harris was going to get a chance to shine being that they had some repoire with Orton from practice.

So how did you guys see it and what does this mean going forward?

I think that Escobar has the potential to be a great receiver. He has terrific hands. It was amazing that the ball never came out of his hand on the TD. IIRC, he landed on the hand that he was holding the ball with.

I don't know if he will ever be a good blocker; although, he does have a big frame.

He obviously has good receiving skills. Whether he'll ever develop the other areas of his game, I don't know.

When I look at him, I see Larry Warford.

I don't know...6'6 catches everything thrown to him, has deceptive speed and willing to learn with a good attitude?? Sounds like a bust to me.

I don't care about who was in their sights. I care about the right decision being made. The fact that he wasn't on their board just tells me how clueless these guys are.

Yes you've pounded the same point home for more then 6 months we get it. But let's not act like the oline was terrible because it wasn't. But this is your MO

which is a huge problem. posters on a message board should not have better mock drafts then the actual team. many folks in the draft zone had warford pegged corrrectly. i believe warford did not give up a sack the entire season. it should have been him, frederick and leary bulldozing people on the interior for the foreseeable future, but i guess we can't have nice things anymore in dallas.

And that's absolutely false. Go take a look at the draft history. You'll see TEs routinely get picked in the 2nd round if only for their blocking skills alone. When people in here were fuzzing about Benette, I made it a point to go back and look at the record. From 2000-2009, if I remember correctly, 11 TEs were drafted in the 2nd rnd, mostly as 2nd TEs, by teams who had established starting TEs, if not pro bowl ( Chiefs did it while TG was there ) caliber TEs, on their rosters. That's a little over 1 per draft.

Do these numbers include Fasano and Bennet?

Agreed.

One play does not a starter make..

but starting next year I'd like to see him start and Witten sit until the season starts and then platoon them more.

We have to get somebody ready to take over as the starter.

Somebody who has a little wiggle and can go up for passes.

Witten is a straight-line receiver and the pass he dropped and got intercepted was the difference in the game as they only took 2 plays to score once that happened.

Witten made a poor play not catching it and then again by not at least trying to knock the ball to the ground.

I was definitely disappointed in his play in that game.

He caught a lot of passes..but like so many teams...they feel Written is not going to beat them for the game.

And they were right.

Escobar would have made that catch. Time to get the young guns Jerry has lined up into the game.

Don't know what to think of him because he was a non factor all season. That sucks because I would've loved to have seen him play more, does anyone know if hes fast? Does he have great hands? Does he run good routes? I just don't know, I fear we have another Marty B situation in the making.

I was actually high on Hanna at the end of last season, he struck me as a guy who could've benefited from an offseason. Oh well the coaches know best....I hope?

Agreed, Escobar has way way better hands than Bennett, seems to be much more nimble than Bennett where Bennett was always kind of stiff. Two totally different players IMO. Escobar is much more along the lines of a Jimmy Gramm although not as fast. Witten is fine and can still be productive, they just need to stop with those 3 yard passes to him...Witt is much better down the seam.

Speaking of Marty, he had a real fine year with the Bears -- 65 receptions for 759 yards and 5 TDs.

I for one always liked Marty and I am happy to see him starting to thrive.

He'll probably flourish when he leaves Dallas like the #2nd round draft pick TEs before him.

Escobar showed a handful of glimpses of what he is...a guy with really good hands meant to catch the ball. He is not a blocker. He was drafted to catch passes but was never utilized properly. My guess is that poor utilization was due to a combination of him needing to improve his route running and the coaching staff mismanaging his talents and then feeling they could not trust him. I don't like where we took him in the draft like most but he is a pass catcher who, if utilized properly, could turn into the next pass catching machine underneath and also has the ability to run the fade to the corner in redzone situations...just don't ever expect him to be a blocker. Adjust your expectations.

Dallas needs to get him going so there is a successful transition between him and Witten when Witten hangs it up. I think this is an important transition that needs to happen starting now, similar to the QB situation, just not to that grand of a level obviously.

Take it for what's it's worth, but when Broaddus does his film study, he always says he consistently sees Escobar get open. Romo just rarely throws him the ball. Takes time to develop trust, I guess.

How does that explain Philly in the last game, where he wasn't targeted. The one play where he scored was busted coverage by Philly, per Collinsworth? Every other time Orton 'adjusted' to the blitz, it was a toss up to Dez.

Escobar reminds me of Rob Gronkowski. Just a big target with hands. Wish we could have seen more of him. I can't fathom why we couldn't have utilized him more in the end zone.

Once they drafted Frederick, the better option at the time would have been Bennie Logan in my opinion. I understood why they thought they were fine along the dline, but all I saw was old age and potential injury.
Warford didn't appear to be a good fit for Callahan's zone blocking scheme though his version is a sort of hybrid. Either way the oline was NOT the problem in Dallas.
