IRVING, Texas -- If the Dallas Cowboys are going to be respectable defensively in 2014, then they will have to make plays on third down. Not just sacks and turnovers, although that would help, but simply stops. In Sunday’s season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the defense gave up seven of 12 third-down conversions. Particularly maddening was the soft coverage on those plays that essentially allowed 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to play pitch and catch with receivers Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree and Stevie Johnson.Continue reading...
