Q: Why is Tony Romo being criticized for playing a little golf? Why does the national media expect him to do nothing but football? A couple rounds of golf here and there are probably good for the guy.
Shawn D. in Dallas

A:
Great point. You win a prize. Players are entitled to have a personal life. Most quarterbacks I know are good golfers. Romo is just better than most. I'll stand by Romo. He's a great story. The guy was undrafted and patient. He waited his turn to get a starting job and then took over an offense that turned out to be one of the better scoring units in football. Sure, he made a mistake by taking a vacation before the playoff game two years ago, but players should learn from their mistakes. As a quarterback, you are also a leader. He's fine.

Thank you, John Clayton. Now if only the Zoners will think the same way...

They still turn around and have the feature story about Romo doing something that shows he's not focused, he's not a leader blah blah blah

Why is it a mistake?

Goin away for a few days wasnt the reason the Boys lost that game.

It amazes me what the media has become in the last decade.

Sports media = TMZ

Lets see how long it takes the media blame Romo's next girlfriend.

Lets just hope the team gets over the hump this year so that these stories will just go away.

Its very simple why he is being criticized for playing golf or anything else he does,he seems to flow with the status of being a superstar and travels in places superstars travel and he really has not done or won anything to put him in superstar status..His problem begun when he took over the QB job from bledsoe and started winning games,he got some attention and he started loving the attention more then loving the game..So here we have Tony Romo..All flash no substance!!!

Tony was playing golf before he started for the Cowboys the media gave him the attention he was not seeking it.

That's just it, it wasn't a mistake, its what his coach told him to do. Coach told all the players to get away from football for a few days. There wasn't any film to watch because they didn't know who there next opponent was. What does Clayton or the other 5 million people who bring this up expect a player to do when the coach tells them something? Hopefully the same thing I do.. TO DO IT!!! If people found out he didn't do what the coach said it probably still would have been his fault, this time for insubordination.

humping is good as long as you don't catch something along the way. :laugh2:
Humping is like pizza, when it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's really good.

Permission will be granted for Tony to play golf once he wins some playoff games. Until then lock him in a room where he can only eat sleep and poop footballs. YEAH!

I have never had pizza that would make my tongue fall off or kill me. I also don’t tend to worry where that Pizza has been before I got it. :laugh2:

I love how this board was blasting Clayton a week or two ago after he said something semi-negative (non-homer) about the Cowboys in his article.

Seems like a pretty non-biased analyst to me, and definitely without an agenda. I know to some people, that saying something negative about the Cowboys is along the same lines as shooting a bald eagle, but for a team that has clearly underachieved these last couple seasons...there has to be reasons. I guess it just hurts some to hear them.

ESPN sucks, they are so biased. They hate the Cowboys, their reporting sucks, their camera people suck because they yell at fans. Ed Werder is pure evil.......

Isn't this what we are supposed to do in ESPN threads?

Does Romo make too many tee times?

Romo ESPN.com senior writer John Clayton led his most recent mailbag column with a question about Tony Romo's offseason tee times:
Q: Why is Tony Romo being criticized for playing a little golf? Why does the national media expect him to do nothing but football? A couple rounds of golf here and there are probably good for the guy.
Shawn D. in Dallas
A: Great point. He's fine.
Romo probably doesn't play that much more golf in the offseason than other quarterbacks. It's just that his rounds occasionally end up on NBC, and Tiger Woods might show up in his foursome. Whether he likes it or not, the aforementioned Cabo trip put a stain on Romo's career that can only be removed with a playoff win.

Yes, the guy's been seduced by the spoils of celebrity, but he's not the first player to go down that path. If he has some playoff success, we'll immediately see him in a different light. For now, the most important thing for him is to eliminate the careless mistakes that will doom an offense. Bill Parcells knew all too well Romo's tendency for making the "impulse" throw, and he stayed in his ear constantly.

Is there anyone at Valley Ranch right now who Romo listens to? I think that's a key question heading into the season.
