IRVING, Texas -- Defensive tackle Tank Johnson has been working out regularly at Valley Ranch since signing a two-year deal with the Cowboys last month and getting cleared by the NFL to be at the facility.

Johnson is serving an eight-game NFL suspension for violating probation on a gun charge. Commissioner Roger Goodell has said the suspension could be reduced to six games.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Johnson working out and being in an accountable program "addresses the chance of him getting back early."

In addition to physical workouts, Johnson is able to meet with the team's player assistance staff, headed by Calvin Hill.

"He's working to try and do the kind of work and make the kind of impression that would influence the commissioner and let him get back early," Jones said.

Johnson played the last three seasons for the Chicago Bears.

I just love the idea of someone on our defensive line being nicknamed "Tank".

LOL Yeah

and I love the idea that he is "in house" getting his "stuff" together and allowing that Cowboy Mojo to work itself into his system.

He has gotta love the fact that he is a Cowboy now.... "Bigg"..... "Tank".... "Barbarian"........... yeah baby

I hope this means Tank will be ready to step on the field and play right away. I gotta admit, I'm a little skeptical of this move. It seems like if Tank drinks a beer in his living room, he'll be suspended for a year. Hopefully, Mr. Hill knows what to do to keep this guy on the straight and narrow.

Hopefully Tank has gained some maturity because of this incident because Hill can give advice to help this kid but only Tank can control what he does. I know he said all the guns he had have been sold off and he seems to be on his best behavior right now. Hopefully this will continue and he can make the most of this 2nd chance. The Bears coaches and player have said he is a great guy in the locker room and a hard worker but is a bit immature

Maybe Tommie Harris wasn't the lynchpin to that Bears D like everyone said? Maybe it was Tank?

Well, if he plays vs. the Vikings, it was 6 games. If he comes back for Philly after the bye week, it was 8 games.

Actually that brings up another question. Does the bye count against his suspension? If not, he might not be available til our game @ NYG.

I'm pretty sure it goes by games and not weeks that go by. So, if he serves the full suspension his first game would be the Giants game.

Isn't he violating the suspension by working out at Valley Ranch?

Evidently not, he can't work out with the team but evidently he can workout at the facilities. I’m sure the league office would have said something had Dallas violated the rule

I think if he was not associated with any team, then his suspension would be complete after 8 weeks of games.

But since he signed with Dallas, his suspension take on our 8 games, which includes the bye week.

Let's hope the commish knocks it down to 6.

You have to believe that having his lifelong friend murdered while they were out clubbing has as much if not more of an impact on his life than his suspension.I can see any young man maturing rapidly after the events he has been through the past year.Hopefully he will dedicate his ability to change his life to his lost friend and the family he left behind.I know I will be pulling for him for sure.

No doubt about it, you would think an event like that would cause a change in your life. He is getting a new lease on his career in Dallas and I just hope he can make the most of it.

Me too Dooms. I would love for him to come in here and earn some respect.I believe Wade will not only allow him to do that but will make him do it,as he should.
