ORLANDO -- We told you last week that Dez Bryant, the Oklahoma State wide receiver, was coming to Valley Ranch for a visit.

Jerry Jones confirmed the visit during a 40 minute interview with reporters on Tuesday afternoon at the NFL owners meetings.

Bryant is projected as the top receiver coming out of the draft, yet the Cowboys have the 27th pick of the first round. There are some off-the-field issues with Bryant such as him getting suspended for the 2009 season for lying to NCAA investigators regarding his relationship with Deion Sanders. His lack of a stable homelife has also concerned NFL teams.

However, Bryant has always been a humble kid and very likable.

"I just don’t want to be sitting there on draft day with a great opportunity," Jones said, "and not having really done what we ought to have been doing which is know everything about him or any other player of that quality."

Jones also said the possibility of drafting a wide receiver might not happen and he praised his young receivers in Sam Hurd, Kevin Ogletree and veteran No. 3 receiver Patrick Crayton.

Wade Phillips told reporters on Monday he's been pleased with the work of Manuel Johnson, last year's seventh round pick and Jesse Holley, who joined the team as the winner of Michael Irvin's reality television show last year.

I'd love to know where he is on their board (assuming they didn't disqualify him like Percy Harvin last year). If he's there at 27, maybe they take him based purely on BPA.

I don't like what I've read about this guy (Bryant).

If you can't pry yourself out of bed to play college football, then I'm pretty sure you lack the fire and competitiveness to excel at the pro level.

Go ahead and do your research, but when your head of scouting warns that you'll "need to keep your foot on his throat," you need to listen.

I think Sanders got Dez the interview/workout and as a courtesy the Cowboys did it. In reality the Cowboys might not even draft a WR. Jerry has been pretty consistent about say he likes the WR's we already have.

Wasnt there war room footage of them saying that about MartyB? Something like " Youre going to have to keep your foot on him, but if you do, hes got some talent"

Then why have numerous wrs been linked to them? Benn, mitchell, Tate, thomas, Bryant, lafell just to name a few. The names mentioned are all 1st round talent so that tells you they'd consider it in round 1. There are to many linked names for it to be a smokescreen. You only have a certain amount of visits so I highly doubt Jerry would waste one on bryant just for the sake of having him visit. I think there's strong interest. If anything the I'd sleep like a baby remarks are a smokescreen.

Don't think Jerry didn't see the team the won the Superbowl. They rolled out Colston, Henderson, Meacheum, Moore, and sometimes Roby chipped in. That included Shockey and Reggie Bush as well. Dez Bryant could add to our recievers.

I don't. They are just doing their thing in the off chance he slides to 27. That's the only way I see him being a Cowboy BTW. At that point he would likely be the highest rated guy on their board and you can't tell Jerry we didn't check him out so we have no idea about this guy.

Of course Jerry would go Bobby Knight and throw a chair across the Cowboy's War Room. That would make for some great TV. :D

Those players have been linked because they are some of the best players in the draft. What team wouldn't be linked to them? And the Cowboys are already linked to every FA and trade possibility, the draft is no different.

Sure the Cowboys are going to be interested in Dez Bryant, but the reality is that it just wouldn't make any sense for them to take him in the first round, especially since they'd probably have to move up to get him.

We know our top four already...Austin, RW, Crayton, OTree...unless one of the bottom two gets moved (unlikely imo), there just isn't a spot to justify a pick that high and the amount we'd be paying to the position as a whole.

Maybe RW and Crayton deserve their cash, maybe they don't. But it's not the point when talking about drafting a WR. They're here, they're getting paid, and they aren't likely to go anywehre.

I don't really agree and I'll tell you why. I was a standout at soccer all through college, I didn't practice well and thought that it was beneath me, however I was outstanding during game day. I think of it the same way I see the kid in Math class that doesn't excel because he isn't challenged. Lack of effort in anything but a game is not an indicator of someones talent or dedication. If there isn't a challenge you're not going to put forth effort. Just look at his mentor, primetime. Not exactly what you would call a team player, but he was by far the best return man/ cornerback the Cowboys have ever seen.

You don't need to get your hearing checked, I remember hearing the same.

IMO, this is Jerry at his best.

He goes the extra mile to make sure that no stone is left unturned.

Everytime I see that Jones is still talking about Holley like he is in any way relevant it makes me angry.
