Bell ringing in Dallas?

Colleague Matt Mosley is driving right now and can't type. But he just called me with a tip from one of his Cowboys sources. Dallas suddenly is showing interest in running back Tatum Bell.

He's not the biggest name out there, only rushing for 182 yards with Detroit last season. But Bell, who was begging for a trade out of Detroit midway through last season, could be a nice fit as a backup running back. He was a 1,000-yard rusher for Denver in 2006. He's also a Dallas native and, at 26, he still has fresh legs.

free agency, Tatum Bell, Cowboys

I wouldn't mind him, provided we drafted a RB still to compete with him for the 2 spot.

Well, I'm glad we're looking for at least 1 vet RB. Hopefully we pick up a rookie somewhere in the Draft as well, and we'll be set at that position.

He's got speed, I just hope his time in Detroit didn't ruin the kid.

Not a bad option, if we're looking for a big play spell guy. Coming off an injury, he'll be really cheap.

I remember everyone clamoring for him back when we drafted Julius Jones.

If he's cheap, then let's give him a look see.

Not bad. And before people start saying we should draft or hit free agency for a big name(if there is one), we're a passing team first. He would be a great fit for that diversity to Barber's game we want.

We need a vet that can step in if there is a minor injury. Plus he has speed and can catch the ball. Then draft the best RB available, no just the speediest.

I wouldn't mind picking him up one bit if the price was right. We have a good back in MBIII and only need someone to spell him. Granted, we want someone good enough to be effective, but this kid has been effective before.

Tatum Bell and Julius Jones are the same back. Good speed, not a lot of wiggle in tight spaces and not a lot of power.

Who hasn't gained a 1000 yards in Denver's system? It doesn't seem like that big of an accomplishment and Julius also gained 1000 yards in 2006.

Tatum Bell
1 fumble for every 58.6 touches

Julius Jones
1 fumble for every 121.0 touches

I don't think Tatum is a bad back just like I don't think Julius is a bad back. Is Dallas looking for an upgrade or just someone to replace Julius? Tatum is not an upgrade.

We're going to need two new backs this year since JJ and Tyson are both gonners. Makes sense to bring a young, cheap vet in along with a first day rookie to split time with Barber.

Yea, if this board disliked Julius's lack of power and tackle breaking ability, then you will love Tatum Bell:laugh2:

Bell is a minimum salary guy at this point. Nothing wrong with bringing him to camp, wouldn't be surprised if it was his agent that contacted the Cowboys about signing.
